a 1400 metre traser bullet hitting home
Nope...that soldier, most likely is looking at targets 300-800 yards away most of teh time...but, they would generally be much smaller than a truck...and he isnt aiming to "hit the truck", he is aiming to hit a particular point on teh truck, or a person, or radar or radio etc.

As stated above, he wouldnt be using a Barratt very often...the L96A1, in Civilian form is teh Accuracy International AW...normally in .308 WIN or .338 Lapua calibres, though they have recently released a folding .50BMG version...

Not very often teh other member of the pair gets a mention is it?
"Sniper kills 39 people" I guess his observer was just sitting around farting and drinking Special Brew then?:D

americas dumbest criminals ^_^ there some was stupid american sitting in his front garden chair with a gun in his hand.......

sniper shot the gun out his hand from 400 yards ;p ok so its not as far as that british sniper, but still, it was a tiny handgun lol

first thing the guy said was "jesus christ what a shot" but 900 yards :| crazy ;/
I think I saw that one....dont think it was 400 yards...and he was a police marksman, not a sniper...totally different thing entirely...besides...they are only really used at up to 300 yards mainly...I think the handgun shot was about 200 yards...

Police marskman arent actually as good as trained Snipers to be honest.
I have shot against UK Police Marksmen at Bisley, and they arent that great (no dissrespect)....as I said, they arent really used to shooting over 300 yards as they dont have the call for it....I am used to shooting out to 1000 yards...so my abilities at 100-500 yards are that much better...at 300 yards I can hit 8 out of 10, 10p sized targets in 0-7 mph wind...

Blimey thats impressive skeet, and i was impressed with my 43mm grouping from 25 m!
With what? It's all relative isnt it.
I am one of teh top 25m prone shooters in kent, so I can hit a pin prick at 25m with diopter (non magnifying sights)...so naturally, I can shoot straight...its just a matter of applying it to teh larger calibre, and accounting for wind..but a .308 rifle at 300 yards, can be a tack driver really..bench rest shooters can shoot one hole groups at that distance!

So..what with??:D If that is an air rifle, open sights and standing...tahst pretty good! I cant do it standing up unless its a bunny...im crap at paper standing up!

Actually it was on a dcct range with an SA80 in the prone position!

But How can you see a prinpick from 25metres away?
Well...diopter sights use holes...teh back sight has a small 1mm say hole in it, teh foresight is a ring, within that is an element which has a 2.5mm hole through it...teh target is approximately 2.5 inches across, 25m away, so it looks like black dot in teh middle of teh foresight, you put teh foresight in teh middle of the aperture your looking through....then bingo...you hit teh target, or not. The pin prick part, is teh very centre of teh target, you cant actually see it when shooting...its a white dot....teh bull is about 10mm across...teh white dot is used to differentiate scores of 100 (straight)..so if 2 shooters all shoot out 10 bulls...tehn they count teh number of white dots that were taken out..so...one may have a score of 100.3 and teh other might have 100.6...my mate colin, used to shoot all cards ina competition..one after teh other (10 cards, 10 shot on each)...he would score 100 on each card and on many he would score 101 (all 10 pins taken out!)...but he is just that kind of guy...he also has teh record for teh highest degree pass anywhere in teh world, or did do last time I heard...so not only is he one of teh worlds best sshots (commonwealth GB team 1200 yard shooter), he is also fcuking clever as well...!

I do know how to aim!!!

But how do you keep the gun steady, are you allowed to rest the barrel on something or do you just hold the gun up?! While prone of course..

Ahh...yeah...you wear a think canvas or leather jacket which helps keep your back and shoulders tight...theh you have a sling from your left arm (if your righ handed) at teh top, which goes to teh hand stop on teh forend of teh rifle...never rst teh barrel of a gun on anything if you want to support teh gun..and never anything hard...!

Wasnt suggesting you didnt know how to aim, but diopter sights are different to regular post iron sights...
