Weather/Time

Joern.

Easy really. At more than one point in the tourney, especially on the friday the fields were empty because the rain was that bad. Also the towers collapsing held up games. These towers collapsed due to the weather. Therefore the weather held up games.

Make sense?;)

Well I gues moving the thread didn't work, maybe you should call it something else that "DMA views", maybe "Amsterdam Mayhem views" would be better...

If the weather wasn't as f*ked then the towers would never had collapsed and the games would have run to the correct times, kinda, and your post would have been about how happy your ass was with whole event.

C'mon, we all know what caused the up to 6 hours (!) delay's, sure fixing the towers and the heavy rain on Friday maybe added an extra 30 minutes (after the tower came down on the Angel field, the games were back on in less than 15 minutes), but the cock up was the playing schedule, as they had the brilliant idea not to print out any schedules, make a back up or anything untill Thursday evening, when according to Buddha, who was there, the computer crashed during the registration.
Maybe someone in charge can explain exactly what happened, and why they didn't have any schedules printed by then, the Captain's meeting was to be at 18.00, surely the schedules and the rest of the paperwork should have been ready for that, as that's when the teams should get the schedule!
The registration and collecting the $ 20 / 30 from every player might have been more important for them, so why didn't they print out the schedules before the started the registration?
Seeing as the computer crashed during registration, does that mean all the registartion info is also gone? is that why we didn't get our passes?, or was by some kind of miracle just the playing schedule wiped and all the other stuff was OK?

ppffffff..........

I don't understand why you keep nagging about Amsterdam......you got to play ball didn't you? You enjoyed it didn't you? If you didn't....you might want to consider quitting paintball, cause in my opinion it's all part of the program. It was the first time ever for Amsterdam Millenium, and they did a good job......and they are coming back next year, and things will be better organized, because you'll learn from mistakes that were made.

Maybe if I hadn't met Robbo before...... :D

But seriously.....I'm not giving Orange a hard time. I'm simply stating that you're there to play paintball, to have fun. I have fun every game I play..... (okay, maybe a bit less when losing  ) and you should when you're in this game. Ofcourse you want good conditions in which you can win, but you simply can't have it all.

Hoping I got my point across,

Good from you to stick up for your sponsors, who organised it, but if you think it is "part of the program" to pay $ 1000 entry fee for this kind of organisation, you must be either very rich or used to a very low quality of tournaments.
Yes, I did get to play ball after nearly dying and waiting around for 6 hours in the rain as the players zone wasn't covered and yes I enjoyed the games I played, will I be back next year? of course, but as soon as there is an alternative, like in the US with NPS and NPPL I'll be gone and never play these kind of events again, were the player isn't put first.

These mistakes have been made before, Skyball, World Cup, at other Millenium Events in the past, how long before they learn from their mistakes, how many times will we have to pay $ 1000 entry fee before they finally get their asses in gear?
I think it was Robbo who put in nicely in one of his articles, we are paying customers!!

Maybe you could ask your sponsors to react, as maybe they could clear some things up about what went wrong, all we heard at the event was that the locals really cocked up and Nail pulled them out the **** by at least making some kind of schedule.
I mean why wasn't there a scoreboard, this is always at the heart of any event.
What's the point of charging players $ 20 / 30 for a pass you don't get? why don't they use the passes to make sure only players get in the player zone, then at least you get a bit of your money's worth and it would hopefully stop the stealing that, again, happened in the player zone.
We were playing with passports, wallets etc. in our pockets as everybody was walking in and out of the playerzone, there was loads of security making sure nobody drove their car on site, we tried it and got jumped by at least 5 of them, why not stick 2 on the players zone and check for passes, the players can stick them on their goggles or whatever, and nobody else comes in.
Why not use the PA system and all the walky talkies they had to inform the teams what field there on and who's on next? how many times did you stand at a field for 30 min with no teams on them, just waiting around in the rain, face it, it was a mess.....

I see your point.....and, by the way, I'm not rich, just used to very low tournament standards :D

For your information, we waited for games for hours aswell, in the streaming rain.

One other thing, by saying what I said, I wasn't sticking with my sponsors intentionally. The first time for everything never goes smooth......look at Disneyland then and look at it now!

Anyway, I wasn't trying to chop you.......

peace,

Orange

Dude.

We aren't trying to launch an anti Orange campaign, that's something we need to get straight right away. This is good **** we're discussing, without criticism nothing ever gets changed. You do have some valid points and we keep going over the same issues; schedule, computers, bad organisation etc. and I gotta agree with ya whole heartedly about some of these issues. I mean I was less than thrilled about stumping up €30 for absolutely nothing, all that cash will look good in someones bank account and you're right about the scoreboard, or should I say lack of; we're all used to the mandatory huge ass chalk board at Millennium events. What grates me is that you seem to have absolutely no plus points at all about any of the tournament. Most people I met had a rough time with one thing or another but still tried to focus on playing and trying to enjoy the game, you however did not. The organisers must look at this and realise what went wrong and really should have been on the boards by now to at least give their side of the story, this would hopefully give some explanations to some of the stuff that wasn't as simple to form judgements on. The computer DID crash on Thursday night 'coz we were in the queue at the time when a very mean lookin' J' looked on as the system just froze up and died.

I think we need to hear some feedback from some of the dudes behind the scenes other than those that have already tried to make good from bad events.

Let's get it sorted for next year and make a good event into a fantastic event.

Let me try to explain something if I may....

A number of Orange's points I agree with. Towers coming down, always bad in my book. But I tell you this, had the same circumstances been around at some other tourneys, the results would have been far more serious. I know for a fact that the guys who designed the towers as they were, were actually trying to make something that was sturdier than what you see at other tourneys. I know this event will have been a huge lesson for them next year.
As far as the computer crashing, I was there when it happened. It's bad that it happened, and it's even worse that no schedules had been printed yet, and that no back up had been made. I agree with that completely, how can that not be bad? But in your original post you made it look as if the computer crash was a lie (I don't know if you did that intentionally or not), all I pointed out is that it indeed did happen. That's not me sticking up for my sponsors, cause I'm simply not sponsored by Jean Manuel. It's just me stating what I saw happening.
I have no problem at all with Orange, I even reintroduced his post as a thread, because I'm convinced that he has some very valid points. It's just that I had a very good feeling after the weekend, and he did not. And I'm sorry to hear that, because it's always better if everybody enjoyed themselves.

Orange, since you seem to be in the know as to who my sponsors are (well, it's in my sig, so no Sherlock Holmes award will be given...:D ), and you seem to know who were involved in the organisation of this event, why don't you send them an e-mail with what you thought was wrong? That way at least you will have done something about it, and who knows, maybe next year you'll see some of your ideas on the field. It's just that shouting f*ck and sh*t a lot ain't gonna change anything. Constructive crtiticism will have a far bigger chance of changing the way things are. You seem to know your stuff dude, so use that not only to your benefit, but for the benefit of everybody else.
Take care,
