Sorry if I offended anyone with my swearing, I'm pretty new at this and type it like I would say it, and I just swear a lot, I'll try and cut down though....

Sure there were good things in Mayhem, the playing, meeting old friends and making some new ones, but I see that as pretty much standard at any tourny, how ever small they are.
Some people seem to see that as something we should be gratefull to the promoters for, but like I said I think that is something you should expect at any tourny as it hasn't realy got anything to do with the promoters, just like the promoters can;t do anything about things like weather, bad marshalling, bad paint etc.
But for $ 1000 entry fee I would expect a bit more than that!
Maybe we're getting a bit spoilt with all the great stadiums and fields we get nowadays, but something has to change as Mayhem was definitly a step back.

I've said it before I think there should be more players involved with the organisation of the series, not just businessmen, all the events where this is the case, like Joy, or the last Max masters seem to run the smoothest and with the player put first.
Why not split the work of organising and setting up the events, get someone to do the registration / schedules, someone for the sponsors / press, someone elso doing the fields / safety, but also someone (a player) sorting out things like player area, scoreboard etc.
I mean let's not forget the amounts of money the events turn over nowadays, I'm sure there's some money in some pot to pay for this.
Entry fee's over $ 100.000 are pretty normal, traders pay $ 100 per square metre, God knows how much the main sponsors pay.
Or take it out of the passes pot, that must be pretty full considering at least 200 teams will play the series, times 7 players and at an average of $ 25 makes $ 35.000!!!

I'm fed up with all this "wait untill next year, we'll learn from our mistakes" crap, how long does it take before they finally do learn from the mistakes? Toulouse 3 years ago had the air problems, Skyball the computer crash, World Cup the safety / toilets ect. and the list goes on, didn't they hear about all this, surely event promoters read the same magazines as us players and hear about the problems other event have.

I'm sure they put the towers up as they were stronger than the normal ones, but why didn't they secure all the towers after the 2 crashed at the Smart Parts booth, why wait for over an hour for the one at the Angel field to nearly kill someone before they finally started securing the others?
On last note on Mayhem: at every event I've ever played at, however small, the "heart" of the event was always the safe/player zone and the scoreboard and Mayhem had neither as I wouldn't call putting tables up out in the open knowing there's a 80% chance of rain a player zone....

As for all the Buddha's here, I'm glad you had a good time, but please don't forget the financial side, you didn't have to pay for any flights, hotels, rental cars, and I presume your sponser, one of the promoters, picked up some if not all of your entry / paint fee.
Imagine if you had spent $ 1000 hard earnt cash each and flown half way around the world to get there, do you still think you had your money's worth?

I'm too tired to think about it all, but I see your points.
Mind you though, to me this tourney was an expensive one as well. It was my first really big tourney, and my second overall. I'm 22 years old, I'm a student and I make f*ck all a month. Okay, my team and I were very lucky to get sponsored paint, but my team did pay for the entry fee ourselves (100 euros per person). Right before the tourney I bought a brand new Matrix+air system, so that set me back quite alot. This weekend, I spent so much, that I don't even know I can pay for my holiday trip to Crete this summer..........because I love paintball.
I've put all the good thing and the bad things on a scale, and came to the conclusion that the good thing weighed more than the bad things. My opinion.
I do defenately hear you on the cost issue, but a $1000 entry fee for 10 players comes to $100 per person.....now that's reasonable isn't it?
Anyway, I've lost track of what I was saying.......I hope everything will be settled once you've contacted Robbo.

i have to say that i enjoyed myself in amsterdam sure there were problems but as i came over to spectate and managed to get a game with the feral jesters and it only cost me £15 to register and £35 for two days of the best game in the world i think i forgot about all the hassle involved when the marshalls shouted game on. one thing that did piss me off was the attitude of dynasty (someone had to put there names forward) on the angel field was appalling people were waiting to play games and all they did was sit on there asses also when marshalling a game they sat on chairs at the half way line oh and as im from scotland the weather was just like it is normally here

True. At one time, we were waiting for our game, and the Marshalls on the Angel field were waiting on their asses, doing nothing to help the situation. When we started chronoing, I had to tell some of them several times to put down their masks! How f****d up is that?

That's because they're pros and pros don't need no stinkin' goggles, because that's for sissies.

Fellas, I seriously hope that you do send those comments you have about the tournament to the organisers. I did not say that in an attempt to shut you up. You have strong opinions, that you back up with good arguments, whether everybody agrees with you or not is irrelevant. So please don't just post those comments in here, send them off to the organisers. You can find the relevant email addresses at www.dma2002.com

the Dynasty kids didn't feel the need to alter their "style" just cause they were in Europe hanging out and livin' large.
