Oh god, you ask too much! :D

I wanted to know the ins and outs of a donkey's ass about everything to do with my chosen sport at the time.
And yet your remit of interest seems a lot less ....'ambitious' I suppose is the word I am looking for.
Realistic is the word I would use. I am considering coming along for the Nexus feeder tryouts, purely because I enjoy playing and there will be a lot of talented people there, but I make no bones of the fact I am 36 and been playing 18 months. The chances of me making it to a level where I will ever be able to emulate the likes of Olly and the like are pretty damn slim. If I was playing the likes of Dynasty, Naughty Dogs etc on a regular basis then I would be a lot more interested in their players and would study them and their game a lot more.. any edge, you know? Ambitious I am, but tempered with realism.

I been in this game for way too long now but I still wanna know what Oli Lang is doing, how Aftershock are doing in the NXL and so on.
Probably because those names, and the real guys behind the names, mean something to you. By that I mean you know them, you have played various incarnations of those teams and players over the years. For me, there just names I may one day end up playing against.

I suppose it all comes down to just how much we all immerse ourselves in this sport of ours, horses for courses I suppose.
You are immersed up to your neck; your history in the game, with Nexus, with PGI. Some of us have to be content with a little less, having almost missed the boat.. oh to be young again ;)

Robbo, you have my apologies. The reason for my 'outburst' was because i was angry about something not involved in paintball, and it did affect what i said when i posted.

The main reason that i said it was 'unreadable' was because

a) some of the backgrounds pictures make the text hard to distinguish

b) The new font size on said pictures makes it even harder to read

c) the sections that IMHO need to be strucutured (especially 'dope' and the news section) have suffered from the use of the little coloured boxes, this is where the old format won out, and i think the old format should be brought back/ slightly changed to make it fit in

The whole magazine redisign looks good on 'first flick' but once you try to do some readin, the flaws become apparent. It just loks lke the whole 'arty' approach went a bit OTT and needs tuning down a bit. On the whole the redesign went pretty well and congrats to you all on that.

Now that's what I call a constructive critique and one that all of us on PGI would respond to positively.
I think after reading some good critiques (eventually) you guys have posted on the new issue, we would be mugs to ignore your points, and we ain't mugs.
Just because our major demographic isn't over here doesn't mean we will ignore out of hand any comments you lot might make.
I promise you, all of us on PGI will be looking at, reviewing and chewing over all of the comments you make and we will, if need be, change the magazine accordingly.
Peace !

Mother, is that you?
I think another good thing that has come out of it is from Urban's (and somone elses's) lack of interest in Nppl, psp,nxl etc. Question is for you guys, given that we must cover those events, how would you report on them to make them more interesting to you. What is it down to... individual moves, tournament diary of playing with Dynsaty, the ten unluckiest people at this month's psp?

Personally, I would like to see an overview of the whole event, the sort of things that can give you a feel for the event like:

Venue, Layout etc
Conditions
Equipment launches
Any controversy/gossip
Marshalling quality
Special events/personalities
Coverage of finals with only very important qualifying games (ie Pro losing to rookie) getting reported on
Final results

What I dont want to wade through is blow by blow accounts of every game, move, bunkering etc too long winded and then you just get lost on the minutiae. The side bar with the move of the the tournament is a good thing.

The content of PGI is always good and doesnt need tweaking at all really, the above points are purely personal.

And you asked for comment..............
;)

But first my comments.

At first I thought the logo kinda sucked (sorry dudes) but I dig the direction you're going in, a bit Face/ID...etc.

At the moment it sits in an unsure space between P8nt and Sidewalk. It needs to stamp it's own mark.

I think you could use more bold/black/heavy versions of the fonts used to mix up the copy and separate headers, sub headers etc making the articles stand out more. I like the coloured boxes and all that. The NXL players article (Travis') worked well for me, everything was in it's own block.

The logo still sucks though, it looks like a first idea on a concept page and needs to be developed. Personally I'd have thought you would have just created a PGI logo as the masthead and used 'paintball' as a strap line, the logo and images would have then spoken for themselves and drawn outsiders in a bit. Maybe 'treat' the logo a bit, stencil/photocopy/distress/bright/bold....whatever to make it a real positive, aggressive statement.

First step in a new, cool direction. Positive.

Competition:

Ask all the haters and doubters to design a front cover, logo for the next issue. Give the content out (text) and ask any comers to have a go. Maybe even have special 'ballers edition' covers designed by famous ballers. 'special collectable Greenspan edition' .Could work. In fact, I think that's a pretty awesome idea.

It'd be the 'Robbotars' all over again.

Except bigger.

Could be a laugh though....
