i think its an exageration to say you have been driving it for 2 and a half years;)

all that time its spent being repaired in the garage must equate to nearly a year:)

love ya really al.

At the end of the day...consider this...I am 29 and I pay nearly £600 a year for my 7 Seater Sharran...I have been driving for 11 years...no claims...couple of convictions:eek: for minor speeding.

If you are 18, male and breathing...you will pay extortionate amounts for your insurance, for a good few years...don't think it will drop by much after the first year because the cost of insurance will go up in that year, thanks to all the uninsured drivers so you wont be much better off.

The only way to have cheaper insurance, is to go 3rd party fire and theft (although fully comp isn't always that much more and dont think you can get fully comp on your old banger, then be able to drive mum and dads Porsche or your mates Beemer, coz very few policies will allow "other cars" until you are over 25)...or to build or buy a Kit Car and get kit car insurance (dirt cheap) or, get a Citroen 2CV and just face the fact that its sh!t...so what, you will still be able to show the girls a good time...you have a car, make it look nice...you will have money to put fuel in it...money for drinks and cinema and clubs and fine lingerie...your mate who has a "nice car" will have sod all money, because he is paying out £200 a month just to insure it...then the cost of new tires will not put a smile on his face...once you go over 15 inch, they start getting proper expensive...

Save your money, drive sensibly and buy the time you are 20 or so, you will be able to get a nice motor...or build one as I say...or, Beetle...nice old one, no road tax due to classic staus, quirky...girls love em..and when you old enough...2.4 Porsche lumps bolt straight in:D

Just for info if a car was registered, or it can be proven to have been built (usually by manufacturers or importers records) on or before 31st December 1972 it can be registered as an 'Historic Vehicle' and be issued with a 'Nill Value' tax disc, this has to be renewed every 6 or 12 months, but it is a mighty fine feeling going to the post office and picking up your tax when they say "and that'll be, nothing" :D

There is not true definition of a 'Classic' car, though some insurance companies will offer 'classic policies' on certain cars over a certain age, there are no fixed rules on this. Like Skeet said with kit cars - they consider that the pride of ownership factor will prevent you from doing anything stupid to trash your car.

Though, you may be on a limited annual mileage policy. For paintball purposes it is good to have something reasonably practical, i.e with enough space in the back for your kit and your lift scrounging mates and able to get you up those unmade tracks etc. that sites are often on.

If you wanted to go down the 'classic' route I would recommend a VW Golf or a Scirocco, the first a practical hatch back and the second a sporty hatch coupe, both built like a brick outhouse from the time when German engineering was really the best in cars. I have owned several of these in the past and they are fairly inexpensive to maintain due to some specialist parts distributors, and easy to work on, either yourself or by a proper local garage.

How do I know all this? Vintage and Classic cars are what I do in real life.
