I think some of you are getting confused ..... Christmas plays host to many differing expressions of human endeavour.

A lot of you have mentioned the things we do treasure about Xmas and these tend to focus on the family environment, which of course is one of the good things concerning Xmas.

However, Xmas is also a time when we are inundated with its commercialisation whereby an avalanche of advertising is upon us.

Personally, I can't look at TV now without feeling sick to my gut most of the time because of the amount and frequency of the ads.
Sky TV seems to me to be the main culprit here because they have completely lost sight of why people watch TV.

Xmas brings out the worst in these TV companies but to understand things a little better we must replace 'Xmas' in this context, with 'greed'.

Companies pay to have their products placed before us at every opportunity they can, there is no thought for the viewer, only for the money to be made by both parties in this ungodly partnership.

We can all enjoy the family at Xmas time, at the same time, we can abhor the commercialisation of this celebration which has now lost all connection with morality or reason.

there isnt any more adverts.

there its just more selction of adverts,

the time between the gap in a program will still be the same. i think where before you would see lets just say 10 diffrent adverst over and over we now have 25.

if they were to add more then the show times would get to like 2:05 3:15 4:25 and thats just weird

I watched an episode of the Simpsons on Sky One recently that had 2 sets of adverts in it. Seriously. And the couch gag was like 2 minutes long.

There we go, a balanced perspective. We all love the human side of xmas: the family, the relaxing (for those of you not working), the food, the fun. It's the omnipresent, sinister forces of bureaucracy that detract from the occasion with their calculated exploitation of our wallets and creation of false needs to fill. On that note, I certainly agree with Bon.

Sadly, the best approach is that which everyone seems to agree on: just do as you're told and try to enjoy it in whatever way works best for you. I focus on the delicious meal I'm going to be stuffing into my malnourished student face :D
