Theres plenty of bank holidays and other such things throughout the year.

Many of which are based on the same Christian beliefs that you just called false. So it's safe to assume you'll be working all bank holidays from now on?

So? It's an excuse to get together with family and friends. I'm not really fussed about getting presents, I like having time off to enjoy with my entourage. Where's the harm?

I have to say that whilst I find the commercialisation of Christmas very annoying I also think that it is a personal choice as to how you celebrate it.

And lets face it, its a religious festival (Bon - Peace and Goodwill and all that) so if you don't embrace that then you have no business participating anyway. Granted, it is the wrong time of year and time to replace a pagan festival but the point remains the same, time to wind down a bit and enjoy friends and family.

Last point, I watch a bit of TV and havent seen too much Christmas stuff yet - unless of course you watch crappy shopping channels!

Yes, we all see what you are saying, but stop being a dick.

Christmas rounds off the year. Everyone gets together, and has a good time with one another. You can't organise a country wide family day on a bank holiday. Or lets say you could, what yould you call it, Augustbankholidaymas?

I understand there is a huge amount of advertising, but there's a huge amount of advertising all year round. It just goes away if you don't pay any attention to it.

Yup, have done in the past aswell.. its just another day. As for calling Christian beliefs false, I believe all religions based on a higher power or deity were made up by people no better than those who start modern day cults to gain power and wealth over people who join up.


That would be, untill someone could prove to me that a higher power exists.

Thread because some representative of one of the churches near me asked me to go to a christmas service, and it realy racks me off because if I wanted to go to one of these services, I would go and ask.

I'm sure that was a massive inconvenience. Even just reading about it has ruined my day.

I think I might go and burn down a church. I mean, charging £30 for a christening? Shocking. And when I think, all the money my grandparents must've spent taking me to church every week when I was a kid, it must mount up well into the tens of pence.

I have kids so 'quasireligiouscreditcarddebtday' is a genuine pleasure in the morning again ,the rest I try to ignore other than the excuse to meet up with mates I don't see that often and get pished.

Advertising this early in the year gets on my wick tremendously as does Christmas shopping and all the associated nonsense that goes with it, however I truly believe that is just a 'middle age' thing rather than specific to the season as there are masses of things (that I should just ignore) which annoy me nowadays..

I understand advertising being annoying at this time of year. But the Pros of xmas substantially outweigh the cons.

who cares about adverts i would rather watch some old geezer with a beard jiggle his belly like a bowl full of jelly more than an advert for thrush or for paris hiltons new best friend who secretly will be shot and never seen again after winning the competition tv show
