And that's a very real problem we face in this country in trying to undo bad behaviours that have evolved either thru bad tuition or an inept coach who failed to spot inappropriate techniques or actions.
So, who is going to train the trainers?

Our sport does!
The 'trainers' come from an elite bunch of guys who have both the intellect and experience to qualify.
We got far too many people standing there as self-professed 'experts' who spout cr@p and consequently infect impressionable, aspiring players with their diseased ideas of how paintball should be played.

It's easy to unmask these pretenders because when asked to explain just why they think a certain technique should be adopted, they will either have absolutely no clue or they will answer in such a way that is so obviously cloaked in bullsh!t, they give their own game away ...

Real coaches are able to take players from nothing and work with them, any fool can integrate cross-Atlantic superstars into a squad and claim credit but the whole idea of a coach is someone who knows/understands the game from ground up and has the brains to utilise that experience.

The range of teams is so diverse that there isn't one correct answer. A lot of people, like me, play tournaments as a hobby at a lower level and have no desire to 'progress' to a higher level. For me it's about fun, friends and gadgets. Winning is nice but I'm not really fussed to be honest, I'll try my best on the field but won't lose any sleep over a mistake.

It's worked nicely for the last 16 years and I'm still playing with team mates from 1993. All of the team bar one are over 35, most over 40, some over 50 - we're generally old, slow and fat - in some cases all three. We don't train and some of us arrive hungover but we still have fun and spend our money helping to keep events and suppliers running.

At the other end of the spectrum are the professionally (I mean that in terms of organisation rather than ranking) run teams who train, keep fit and really want to win. Ambitious & talented players will naturally gravitate towards these teams, as they would quickly become frustrated in a less focused squad.

I can't see any real benefit in trying to reduce the number of teams - cream rises to the top anyway, so you'll just be trying to reorganise the dregs ;)

And just to add something to this, what position is the most influential position on the field of play .... generally speaking??????

I think only an idiot would argue against it being the snake.

Let's assume, we get the greatest snake player in the world and the team's job is to keep him alive while he does his business (in general terms) ..... a picture forming here???

Let's discuss :)

Yet another Abbott reference perchance? ;).

To drag this thing to somewhere near on-topic - is it time to have a structured/registered coaching scheme (as well as a refs one?)?

Who would run it? You volunteering Mr Robinson? Could be a nice 'ikkle e'rna! Maybe a 'Federation' backed coaching course, with a genuine qualification at the end of it, is something that could be worked towards.

Maybe it could even set the new standard for UK tourney ball?

I, for one, would attend. I fancy being a 'UK Paintball Federation' trained coach. This is actually a little step towards getting UK ball organised in to something worth having.

This could also extend to a refs course.

Hmm - little acorns....
