This could be the only time you as a team get to play in front of 100's, possibly 1000's of spectators. The British public do not go to normal events because they are out of the way normally. Most spectators, even @ Campaign have some thing to do with the sport.

At Blackpool, the general public are going to see something that very few of them knew even existed. We have an event which is not hidden away in some wood or a field in the back of beyond. It is right there, on their doorstep, their face and very close to one of the most visited tourist attractions in the country. It is the British equivalent of putting on an event @ Euro Disney, Paris.

Now let's talk about publicity, imagine the media coverage, something never before seen on Blackpool's beachs/promenade always gets good media coverage. What would the local Chelmsford rag do when it found out that of a bunch of local lads were playing @ this event. I guarantee they will want to know more about you - no local paper would pass up and oppurtunity to boast that a local team was playing at this first ever public event on Blackpool's promenade. Who knows there may be a local business "person" who previously would not of even considered, but now thinks maybe you might be an interesting and novel investment sponsorship.

Too close to other tournaments and too close to Campaign Cup. Well there will be teams going to Campaign who should go to this event just to sharpen themselves up in preparation. There are teams playing domestic events and not going to Campaign Cup, who should see this as chance to knock heads with some of the UK's best players and learn from the experience.

There are so many positives that playing this event could bring and very few negatives.
Next year this could be the flagship UK event that teams in the domestic leagues aspire to qualify to play in, offering the best teams at each level free entry into next year Campaign Cup.

Yes it's all hyperthetical, but guys and gals, we all want to play paintball, we all want to win, we all want to look good, we all want respect and we all want to get better. To achieve any of that players have to put a bit of time and effort in. UKPSF, The Federation, The Millennium, NSPL, UK Masters, CPPS and any other organisers out there can only do so much and the rest is down to players.

You do nothing, you gain nothing

Don't think you are being singled out.

It is a general rant that from the whole of the UK paintball scene these guys can't get 16 teams, thats right 16, who really want to publicise themselves and help promote and develop the sport.

If you think playing there is expensive, we have ONE league in Ireland and paint is 50 Euro a box, no other option but site paint.

And fyi, I'm bringing a wife, 2 infants and a mother in law
I dont feel singled out at all, I just think maybe its time for a reality check, its just a hobbie to 99% who play, its not and never will be on par with football, rugby, golf ect. The fact is its the 99% who keep it afloat not the 1% who aspire to be the next ollie lang and they have no right to barrack others who for what ever reason cant play a particular event.

Good that you are taking your family but the bottom line is people are having to vote on what they deem to be more important and to most sticking with the series they have supported all year is going to take priority and according to the federation rightly so.

good luck rich and mark.

Reality check

Football, Rugby, Golf etc are just a hobby for 99% of their participants too and yet they all run one off tournaments at all levels and you give them somewhere prestigous to play that event, they would go in droves

I cannot think of any hobby where participants shy away from a chance at showing off how good they are at it or how much they enjoy playing it.

which brings us back to the reason why paintball will never be a mainstream activity, A football, rugby ball ect does not cost a lot of money. The game of football ect has a focal point for the spectator, paintball does not and never will in its current format.

I think its not a case of teams shying away from wanting to show how good they are they just cant afford it.

100% agree with you it is a hobby to most players, but even at that I don't know anyone who takes part in ANY hobby who doesn't want to develop and improve and push themselves. Do you think your local pub team would pass up a chance to play a Champions League team if there was a little inconvenience involved?

I think the thread has run its course and is going round in circles at this point.

Never say never, you are hardly qualified to make that rather definitive statement.

As for football and rugby, have you seen the price of all the kit? Boots, kit, shin guards, head gear and have you any idea how much a custom gum shield is? Travel costs are going to be the same so you can't pull that into the equation. Cost isn't the problem, if teams really wanted to play this they'd soon find the money. I guarantee they'll find the money for their Saturday night out ;)

Paintball does not need to be mainstream
Lets see karting, skateboarding, american football, archery, need I go on.
When all we are talking about here is 16 teams - there is no excuse for this event not to be full - reasonable entry fee - offers of discounted accomodation - etc etc etc

I just wanna add something here; I played paintball because I loved it, hardly shock news there

There were a few things that made playing better.....playing at the top of our sport, winning, the mates I made and ............playing in front of a crowd.

I don't care who the hell you are, when you play in front of a crowd, your heart is pounding like never before.

I was lucky enough to actually play in front of thousands of people and there was never a feeling like that, never.

And you will get that feeling whether you are a first time player or a pro ... as soon as you have spectators, every player can be an Oliver lang.

The attendant thrill is like nothing you guys have ever experienced unless you are a rock star or pro fighter or whatever.

I have to say out of all the things that made paintball playing better, playing in front of a crowd as without doubt, theeee most intense.

It's paintball on steroids...trust me, I should know :)

And so, get your paintball asses down to this event and be our next Oliver Lang !!!

I woulda said, 'be our next Robbo' but none of you are anywhere good looking enough and so that's why I used Oliver.

I'm way better looking and younger  :D
This can only be because you believed the words that came out of your wife's mouth when you gave the little lemon a squeeze one night.

Wives tend to say things during full contact sex to try and make you feel better and maybe you should take a few puffs of a reality bong when you next post mate.

You maybe younger, that I readily concede but bejeepers mate, better looking???
..........And they thought Tommy Cooper was funny :):)
