So who actually thinks this will go ahead?
Well if the proposals came over to the UK i'd definately be one of many who would be up in arms and making sure we are vocal. To be honest, paintball is popular enough in the UK that most people I know have been atleast once, and generally have had a good time. With that in mind I very much doubt public opinion would support the assertion that a paintball ban would reduce gun crime. People are too familiar with it and know its a bit of fun.

Plus, some of the phone in comments are rediculous. One girl saying "ban air soft because it could hurt if you were stood on the sidelines or maybe an animal". THINK OF THE ANIMALS! Her assertion is that it should be banned because it could hurt? Ok lets ban pavements, they could hurt if you fell on them...

Up on Iplayer now - starts at 34:25 on the Jeremy Vine show

EDIT:

Damn, Nick - would have liked to heard your opinion :(

Mixed views, positive ones coming from people who are informed and educated about the scene and negative ones coming from people who have had direct personal bad apple experiences with it, are not educated fully about everything, and seem to hold a bit of a grudge - but thats just the nature of opinion I guess
Reaffirms my theory that Radio 2 is the Daily Mail of the airwaves. Nick's national media debut, a no show, classic!

As for the woman who has paintball on her farm, following which the participants indulge in fights and damage her and her neighbours property. Where was she coming from, if that's the case why does she continue to allow paintball on her land?

Ok ahead of any official announcement from the Millennium....

I spoke with Barry Fuggle from MS today in respect of this news and he has assured me that whatever happens in the German political system this will NOT affect the Bitburg event.

Basically the politicians are indeed trying to ban Paintball amongst other things but in order to do this they need to table the proposal to their parliament. To do that this side of the summer recess they apparently have to submit the motion by end of May. Like most things it will take a little time to go through and by then the event will be over.

The German police are also completely dumb founded by the calls to ban paintball. They were quoted as saying its is a silly idea & they have enough on their hands looking for real criminals as it is, without having to police people with paintball guns.

Barry has suggested that this could in fact be good for paintball as it could, given the right verdict, legitimise the sport. Of course the Millennium have offered their services to show the politicians what Tournament Paintball is all about, so that they can see that it is indeed a sport practiced safely with consideration to others, and not some wannabe Rambo’s running around town.

In my opinion it would be a good show of solidarity between ballers if we all rally to this event and make it a big spectacle, thus making the politicians take note. The bigger this event, the bigger dent we can make in the stupidity of this action and stand up for our sport. If we let the politicians win this one - next it will be Poland!

So guys & gals I guess I will see you on the field.

The Germans have a spineless load of sycophants as politicians just like us and will be swayed by public opinion.
Point out to them that prostitution is legal in Germany so how come they're not all rapists.
Bloody politicians, any soap box

I think sending feedback to the editor of a paper which covers paintball in a negative light is a very dangerous thing to do - if you are writing to them, be careful

Right now we should be giving them NO ammunition to throw at paintball - at Bitburg, like Spike said, everyone should be golden, show them what a great show we can pull off etc. Any mishaps will get pounced on by press, we will be centre stage

We are pawns in a system, and the easier route instead of fighting it in this case - I would have thought - would be to play it and beat it at it's own game

This has the potential of a good piece of PR - but its the smallest of things which portray us in a bad light which will be noticed most

im not sure if anyone heard this 2day but i listened to it by chance, but a bbc radio 2 show covered this subject. it is about 34 - 35mins into the show.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b00kbgbx/Jeremy_Vine_11_05_2009/

i dont believe anyone pointed out that the people that make paintball look bad and cuase injury and suffering to others are either off the street customers to sites or people that pick up cheep guns form places and dont know the dangers involved although all the bad incidents that the show mentioned not one was on a site! its not people that are into the sport who will lose a keen interest if like usual goverments jump on the latest vote grabbing fad to fly in.

i maybe wrong in wot i say but its how i look at it
