Hmmmmm ............

Seems to me as though some people are not so much running before they can walk, but are flying ... and flying with a stick of dynamite up their ass ... I think some of you guys need to throttle back a little and grab some perspective here before the red face brigade hit town.

Thanks for the advice, Robbo.

I appreciate your input, and would be grateful for any advice you can give.

I have taken advice from someone with great experience in organising events and he has advised caution also, but he still feels the idea has merit.

I want to do this event properly, and if I can't do that I won't do it at all.

I will post up in more detail later on, as I am at my desk now, sculpting my guns.

It's boring, but it's part of my life. :D

:)

PS: I think it's about time you did another player clinic!

I have never run an event but I have been to a fair few all over the world, close to 300 or so I would think in over 20 years and so whilst I might not have any expertise in the organising and running of events, I do know what it takes to get them off the ground and then run them.
It's an awful lot of work and unexpected expense with the more successful ones tending to be those that have had a lot of pre-planning done.
Pure Promotions were the ultimate event organizers and set the standards for the modern era of arena-ball promotions.

An initiative such as this is necessarily a huge undertaking because of so many factors that have to be taken into account and I'm afraid the parochial type events we normally have over here will not equip anybody with sufficient expertise to get a proposed tournament like this off the ground.
The Millennium guys would I think, be the only people (apart from the WDP crowd) who could put an event like this on some beach-front somewhere.

And even then, they wouldn't do it because ..........
I'll give you three guesses guys.

As for any more seminars?
Hmmmmm, I'd like to think there are still some people out there in paintball land UK who want to understand our game but I have yet to be convinced.

It seems our player base is more concerned with buying go faster stripes to put on markers and giving each other high fives whilst referring to each other as 'dude' than they are of improving their understanding of the game.

Still, didn't someone say somewhere, 'you get what you deserve'....

And just how many pro teams do we have ?

My point is made I think ....

Robbo spells it out

....and he's right.

WDP set the standard for tournament excelllence, and spent a shedload of cash on the dream for no return.

I think I have just taken the first step on a long road, and I need to listen to the advice of those who are more experienced than me.

Companies like DYE plan their ranges years in advance, and I have to adjust my thinking to that mindset.

Given that the paintball calendar is rammed full of events, an event like the one I am proposing will not realistically happen until 2009 at the earliest.

This is because the wallets of players are stretched far enough and I do not want to put on an event either one week before one week after an existing event.

So, it's a work in progress!

:)

A little off topic

Come on Robbo, do a seminar in the North - you know you want to!

Jonathan, it's got nothing to do with what I want mate ...and has everything to do with what others want.
I don't mind doing them anywhere in the UK but I can only do them if people wanna learn.
I get about 1 email per week (on average) from people in the US wanting me to go over there and do seminars, about one every two weeks or so from mainland Europe; I tend not to do these because I wanted to cut my travelling down and chasing money has never been my thang ....and yet from the UK?
Well, I'll let you guess what the demand is

Further Developments

Now looking at using fully enclosed portable fields, as these may offer the best solution - they can be dropped in end to end along the promenade, thus allowing the heavy footfall that the trade stands will like, and making it easier for spectators to watch.

Will keep you all posted.
