1. Car Insurance is mandatory
2. As a tournament organiser he has rules laid down for you as a player to abide by. Try playing a Millennium event without a registering with the Millennium organisation, in fact you can not walk onto a Millennium field in any capacity without a card
3. It covers you if you get hurt
4. It also allows you to claim reasonable damages from the third party if you injuries are due to their negligence
5. It also protects the tournament organiser from being sued as the injured party can in today climate claim that the organiser was negligent in not making it obligatory for players to be insured to play in what is a closed event
6. Step forward in two ways, firstly it shows to outside bodies that we take the risks in our pastime/sport seriously (There are about the same amount of American Football Players in the UK as there are SupAir tournament players and every one of them have to be covered by insurance). Secondly the UKPSF is the body recognised as the mouthpiece of paintball by the Police, Judiciary etc and it will hold a register of people who legitimately own and use paintball equipment for recreational use

Insurance for the players is all good. What about spectators ? Or even players that are'nt playing, and they dont have insurance in place.

At events , anyone can pick up a marker and bottle, dryfire it, take it out to chrono, goto the fill station.

So is it mandatory for everyone who sets foot anywhere near a field ?

£12.50 anually is affordable for player if the policy provides a good insurance cover. But like some have said, we who pay the premium, need to know all the facts and what we are covered for. (hope to god the underwriters are not Northern Rock:eek::p)

why has this taken so long to be bought into affect?
these cards gonna be picture id? as anyone could pass a card to a mate if they cant make an event. the person using the card injures someone then the sh!t hits the fan.
would love to see some more details and after signing up and paying i'd like to receive something through the post confirming the details of this insurance.

this is definately a good thing but not enough info has been released to us describing the complete ins and outs of the cover.

1. Politics
2. Can't remember, but if it is not a requirement at the moment it may be in the future
3. As this was instigated by last weekends incident you will have to be patient

The underwriters are the Royal and Sun Alliance (Policy Number RKK692530) via Perkins Slade who have been covering paintball sites since day one in the UK. They could still be a Northern Rock but I doubt it would be paintball that takes them down.

The University series is not on there because they don't pay their membership - I did a deal on an affiliate fee and from memory 4 universities (3 more universities, from memory, were going to pay but it never happened) paid it but that was in 2006. You might have paid a fee this year but it wasn't to the UKPSF.

I will post the schedule once I receive a current version - To prove I do what I say I can post the invoice for the June 2007-2008 cover as we pay for a blanket cover for a certain number of members. The previous year we paid for 500 members and actually less than a 100 signed up so it cost the UKPSF money, this year we have paid for 200, once we exceed 200 we then pay a further fee for another 200 and so on.

For those who played the Series 2000 and 2001 events I operated a similar scheme which I as the event organiser paid out of the fees (I had added a £1 per player per event to the game fees) and in the two years it ran we did have a claim and the company paid out without any hassle.

As far as confirmation - usually in about 10-14 days you will get a card and a number and there will be an e mail sent to all members explaining the cover etc...

This is not some knee jerk reaction this scheme it has been in place for 18 months and sites like Powerplay, YPC , Frontline and Universal, Campaign, Armaggedon events actively encourage membership (via the UKPSF or the NPC) and I would say 90% current members are from the walk on /scenario area of paintball

Just a bit of insight for the skeptics

I ask one thing - please don't turn this thread into the "What do the UKPSF do for me, they are a stealth tax, they meddle in the sport, they only look after sites etc...." type of thread as that is what usually happens.

Cheers

Incidentally I can be contacted via 0845 130 6258 to answer questions

I can vouch for Perkins Slade as a reputable company, from when I played American Football, although I have never claimed from them I know players who have had broken limbs and Perkins Slade assessed the damage and paid out accordingly. They may have changed in the last few years but I believe the still insure alot of sports/pastimes especially those of an extreme nature.

The cover is at a sanctioned paintball event - not on the way there, not on the way home and not at work- if we wanted cover beyond the event it was expensive as players who have PA cover will tell you.

No paypal - then send a cheque to the UKPSF

Not at the moment, but I would assume both NSPL and D7 may well be seriously considering it, as it benefits them as well as the players. The other thing to think about is if it was you that got hit and seriously hurt by and exploding bottle due to someone using oil in the fill nipple or throwing their gun on the floor you would want adequate recompense. The least the insurance can do for you is peace of mind for your family

As a Bully so rightly says - 99% of recreational paintballers will shoot £12.50 worth of paint over the chrono in one days play
