in the ABYSS
in a sport where internet persona's hold more ground than skills...

playing for a plastic cup and bragging rights...

for the time, effort and money people put into the game there is a distinct lack of product.

pfffttt..

its gone!
i think there are those who want a day of standing around socialising for 40 mins between their games and dont care if they win, and then those who love to play paintball and wants to be the best they can be at it. We're not getting enough of the second type in, so everyone is just turning to the first type (kind of, i think).

Some tourneys are just a social background and a little 'shooty shooty' whilst others are providing a true competition.

To get the players who are competetive we need to be recognised or at least out there. There are other sports that are alot more ££ than paintball but we need to be out there to allow people to make the choice.

just thought i'd throw that in the pot.
two very good post there, and sums up my thoughts on the subject

I agree to many UK teams go out there to have a good time and don't care about winning, winning is every thing to me!
not sure if i got confused i just relized there is an aftermath in the UK, but i was talking about San Diego Aftermath Dynasty's sister team from California

in my opinion we need a limited paint tourneys to be used as trainning and or run out for second string players. who remembers tim taylors limited 5mans at activ8 ok they were woodsball but good fun. or koohdoows super 7s,10 man intermediate championship, or his monthly 5/7 mans where upto 32 teams played with if not all the top uk teams of the time where there battling because these tourneys had bragging rights, compared to todays local tourneys nobody really cares theres no real bragging rites except for the campaign cup theres nothing out their for teams to stride for.

remember the good old days when brit ballers were a hairs breadth away from being on par with the yanks and we ballers lead the way for european ball because this situation is along time if ever likely to change unless uk ball changes drastically.

and its a bloody shame because there are some great ballers in this great land!!!!!

- If your serious about playing quality paintball and think you have what it takes ask for a tryout on your best local team even if there pro and youve only played D1 NSPL and a Campaign Cup they will still be impressed by the fact you have actually show some desire to better your game and will probably be very willing to help you.

- Fitness is a very important aspect and if your thinking about stepping it up you are going to have to be very physically able considering everything is now changing to Xball and the game is generally getting faster (I hate fitness and my team captin can confirm i have been a lazy **** in the past but recently ive been trying to pull my finger out and i feel great)

- Do not turn up on a Sunday as a few people have said and DOS around! Get there at 9am and work your ass off until it starts to get dark.

- There is always stuff you can be doing even if the field isnt free, dont waste your weekend do a bleep test or some circuit training.

- You dont need 10 people to train, 1 on 1 battling, 1 shot check, half court games etc

- Lastly dont be half arsed, if you dont want to play dont play, put all your fricken heart into training to be the best, its hard but its a case if you dont want it enough and dont drive yourself to it, well hell you aint gonna get it.

Im lucky to of played under one of the best minds in UK paintball in my opinion and he has bred into us great work ethic (maybe mines abit shoddy but youll have to ask him that) and i cant thank him enough for what hes done for my game. Hopefully i havent offended anyone with this post and its just my own opinon i also apoligise if i have gone somewhat off track.

I'm more of the second type. For us younger players, it's more transport, money and school work!( Not to mention you grizzly parents making us revise the solar system for 5 hours... You know who you are! )

If we had the support of money and transport, we'd be able to paly when we wanted.. but not all of us have parents that understand the reason WHY we play. We play for what? Prizes? To explore the countries? Meet new people? Choose what you want.. But I know that my choice is for the challenge and to put as much effort and dedication as I can.

pretty much spot on mate.

The only thing i would add is that those 'best local teams' have got to put some effort into helping those local players, the players who aren't at their level yet, give them tips and help. If they just ignore all the players who aren't as good as them as they progress that's just not helping at all. e.g Sick Psycho and Jim Frensham used to train newer players (like me) at the quadball site when it was open. Stuff that would have taken me alot longer to figure out myself, and that's progression isn't it, passing down your lessons so newer players learn faster

last year relentless were running drills for a morning, running and gunning at targets, breakout drills, laning etc.... overheard some kiddy saying "they need to stop shooting targets, the only way they will learn is by playing games"
words of wisdom right there?

haha, i learnt more from last sunday than the rest of my time paintballing put together.

as for learning in games, something my P.E teacher used to say.

Practise might make permanent, but only tution from someone who knows what they are talking about makes perfect.

I think there still should be one league to get every single team together.

It would be a great way of spotting talent.

every thing needs to be under one governing body as well its the only way to be taken seriously.

we should try and sort every thing in house before running off to play tournaments world wide.

If the best teams and the best players played the same tournament over here i think it would help every other team for them to look up to also get to play said teams.

Also there could be a novice div for all the teams who do want to stand about talking and having fun plus they could watch some good ball as well.

Plus if this happened then the MS would **** themselves with lost revenue then the players and team could start to get more of a say with what goes on.
