there's a few good points raised about geographics.
I personally don't agree however, (although it is a good idea). If i wanted to say play for a "regional team" (if i was good enough) and it was 50 miles away, for everyone, every weekend, it's gonna cost me around £200 a month in petrol alone. then you got green fee's etc. paint at £20x 3 or more each weekend so that's what? £100+. Which adds up.
Now along with my house/car/bills etc i don't have loads of cash lying around to do this. This is why local people get together, it helps split travel costs, can train nearer etc.

I think it was Clint who raised the point that there is a lack of effective training in addition to the lack of any training. I assume the comparison being made here is between the joe average UK team and the higher level teams. So surely the deficit lies in that there isn't enough people to show the lower level teams how to do it properly?
Everyone knows that you only get better by playing people better than yourself. Thats fine. But wouldn't there be a better rate of progression if you played against people better than yourself AND the better players gave advice? That way newer times would be more inclined to lock horns with better teams at training because they know they'd get a pasting but also learn WHY they were getting pasted.
Like Jaymes said, you won't get help if you don't ask for it so why don't people? Are they intimidated? Lazy? And what can be done to improve that? I feel that if that is sorted then people will enjoy playing better, enjoy the experience, be more inclined to invest the time/ money and UK paintball will self perpetuate on from that. Or is that just fantasy?

im not sure thats the problem.
theres two, well now one cpl team train down south and one semi pro team that train up north. the answers aren't going to be given, teams need to go looking for why they aren't progressing or as you put it getting pasted (not trying to have a dig in anyway)
i personally think its down to the people them selves and how serious they take paintball. i don't think most teams want to play paintball around Europe, theres nothing wrong with that, if someone doesnt want to play an event or series that down to them.
just what it ever it takes to play is the answer , steal money from parents/ mug old ladies etc
just play the best league thats best to get you to progress , and do wha tever it takes

for those of you that havent been to USA you should see all the kids they wanna rip pro teams to bits- aftermath a good example
people in this country prefer sayin 'see you in the middle guy's' and are happy to lose to you instead of adapting

Y'all are off on the wrong tangent--again. Shock ain't gone cus they couldn't field a roster of real, honest to goodness quality players. They are gone, or so it appears, because ownership either couldn't justify another season or simply couldn't afford it. The players are still there. A long-standing well-liked team is gone and why?
It's got nothing to do with how much or how little or how well the rest of you train or don't. You want to help UK ball then encourage everybody you know to go out and give it a try. Be glad for the once a year players and the birthday party newbies and the throwbacks who want to play in the woods and enjoy playing the game for once instead of perpetually whining about it. If you're serious, be serious. Just don't expect everybody else to be and while you're at it treat your fellow serious players as comrades instead of enemies--excepting of course when they're on the other side of the field.
If I was involved in something that always made me miserable* I'd quit sooner rather than later. Cheer up.
* I confess I hate to lose and can recount the points of matches lost but even then you can't carry it around like a lodestone all the time.

gotta agree with pebble on the mentality front....kids in usa from as young as 14 literally que to get there shot against the pro teams at raza park for example. they dont stop queing and shooting until they get victory or suceed no matter what the condition...uk general mentality, its cold oh bugger lets go home for sunday roast??
players should look up to teams like nexus, eci, mk storm, notorious, disruption etc for there mentality of not giving up because either its raining, its too cold, its too windy and so on. the be all and end all is suck it up and train til you cant train no more. work with what you have and dont bitch about what you dont. and remeber dont give up at the first hurdle. think ive slighty gone off point but you get my point.

i do believe swarm are playing PSP in div 2 this year, just a pitty not many can afford to do the same
as for the mentality bit, there are a few teams that do have that mentality, Reapers for example trained almost every weekend since the end of november, apart from a short xmas break, in wind and rain, and we proved it pays off. too many people just asume no one puts any effort in because only a few teams that do are well known

Truth!!
I will freely admit that when it comes to the sup-air tournament scene I am pretty much an outsider looking in, but from what I have seen and from what I have heard from speaking to countless players, is that people are getting ****ed off with how serious the game is getting with little/no reward at the end, which is why a lot of people are coming back to the woods (FTW).
As for people/teams not being dedicated enough to train every weekend, I'll agree that a lot of people do have the "It's raining, to hell with this" attitude, but for most it's simply the time or, in the case of the younger unemployed players, the cost that is prohibitive. I myself would love to train every weekend, but overtime and traveling to see my girl stops that.
If I'm totally honest I believe that indoor Reball centers to be the answer. Weather is no longer an issue and obviously the reuseable balls end up cheaper than paint, meaning only a small "green fee" could be needed. However, as far as I know (I could be wrong) there are only two centres in the UK both of which are up north somewhere which doesn't help the majority of the playing populace.
I don't know if any of that makes sense, just my 2p worth
