I think the millennium should get in contact with dave at D7s because Dartford looks alot better than belgium does. Ive got plenty of farm land & playing fields where i live maybe they could use them.
How are you going to attract more teams to the millennium-series events like the americans when your paying for & playing in a ****e hole. Are they just taking your money & trying to run if you can in welly boots.

well done to all the uk teams

I did notice a lot more non paintball people walking around this event than any other MS event this year which was strange due to it being in the middle of nowhere. Dont know if it will get them into or talking about the sport but there did seem to be alot more people there intereted in brousing.

If all that stuff makes an event good for you, stop wasting money on paintball and just go on vacations...

Splashing out all that money should give you more than a "glorified UK Masters" feeling. All the positive points you mention have sweet FA to do with paintball.
Ah Buddha, you missed my sentence on the teams we played, Dynasty for example, which contadicts your last sentence above I suspect.

Me olde Bolter mentioned positive points of the event, I added to this with what was different in comparison to other events. I play these events not only for the paintball but to have a good time with my team too. This is fundamental in 7 man paintball where its about the team not the player. Without my team there would be no enjoyment in paintball - just paintball. As a result I don't waste money because I make an event a Vacation (as you put it) infact I get the best of both worlds :)

Everybody is talking about what he enjoyed and what he didn't. And of course people who are able to make fun them self or the teams which where simply very successful in there terms are happy.

Of course, i was able to enjoy Belgium as well because i met a lot of people their i like very much and i usually see only on the Millennium, but thats not the deserve of the MS. And if i have to rate Belgium it was horrible.

If you want to rate how well or bad the Millennium did this time, you should take a look at the things they took care of or not. And how was it compared to other tournaments in the past years.

If i take look at how the MS developed the past years, i can see that everything becomes more and more expensive but the quality drops and the people get less for there money.

But we should ask ourself first what is necessary for a tournament of this size! Which requirements should be full filed by a site to be suitable?
And how are the priorities of this requirements

1. big enough (for parking, trade show, fields, staging, etc.)
(yes ok, big enough...)
2. usable in all weather conditions (even to unload trucks and drive around with em)
(Belgium was definitely not!!!)
3. it should be flat (you just cant build a good field on an stinking acre)
(you know several story's about how it was already)
4. enough overnight accommodation within 20 minutes journey time
(I know people which had to drive more then 45 minutes every morning, because there were no rooms left around the site!!)
5. enough possibility's for everybody to supply them self with food and whatever else is necessary within 20 minutes journey time
(restaurants closed at 21.00, and the next supermarket was more then 10km away and several items where already out of stock on Thursday!)
6. European airport within 30 minutes journey time
(NO!)
7. reputed location (even if it is only the overflow car parking, it helps if you try to get a good image in the public if you can they, we play at Euro Disney for example)
(even if not really necessary, it definitely was not!)
8. good atmosphere (but that is something what is usually created by the players and vendors)
9. it should be cheap (oh yes it was!!! it was for free!!)

To me it looks like they only take care of the last point, and i simply don´t believe their story's that this was a 3rd choice distress location, specially because i know other story's about it.

Judge em yourself, but if you add up all the entry fees and if you have at least an idea of how much sponsors have to spend and what the MS pays them self and what is provided by sponsors or what is for free, you might come to the point that they earn a lot of money, and if they don't, like they say...there is something fishy about the MS.

Will have to agree with Rosie on all the points she made!!! They could've done better!!
But on a more positive note

The sun did shine eventually!!
The Brits actually did realy well at this event - plenty of trophies I believe

So - trophies were brought home and the weather and site could've been worse, definately not what people were expecting but on the whole most people I spoke too had a good time and got to play some hard ball.

Phrases of the weekend 'scotch eggs' 'love pudding' ;)
but we didn't loose that 'loving feeling':D:D

In short I think the Millennium series stepped on thier D*cks for this one.
I read some posts here saying that people are just complaining and the other stuff that doesnt directly involve paintball isnt important.
Well it is and it is more important than most pople think.

To have Europes major event for our sport in the midle of nowhere in any country is selling our sport short. Its to not give paintball a chance to evolve and its short sighted to the extreme.

The Millennium series should be our showcase in Europe and therefore they have to produce events that are presentable to sponsors, media and people outside paintball. Thats one reason why the entre fee is much higher than local events.
If the events are put on good sites where people can take familys and friends and combine playing with vaccation it will also be possible for more players to continue play Millennium. If not many will just stop playing them as they cant keep burning away vaccation days. And nobody will in the long run be able to spend that kind of money to go to a cornfield somewhere in Belgium.

Another issue is the traders, how long do we think they will sponsor us and the millennium series if they are put in places like that? Where they dont sell anything and cant even park their trailers beacuse of the mud?
Didnt we have this discussion in 1999 and 2000 and 2001 and 2002 etc..
And how about the press, how do we want them to present paintball in papers and tv?

Im tired of hearing excuses, its time for the Millennium to get their agenda straight.

Paris, London, Ibiza, Prag, Mallorca, Amsterdam, Malaga etc etc. Thats what they need to look at so people can justify the investment in time and money they are comitting. And yes it might be more expensive to rent than a cornfield but thats what makes a series grow. Look at HB in 2003 they had 93 teams and in 2004 it was 200 teams and have been full ever since.

Ps, someone need to tell the snake reff on the SPL field that sometimes the guy who get mugged and the mugger isnt shot in the same time. Its getting silly....

It's bad enough you have all this to put up with after spending your hard earned cash on going to events such as these but I'm afraid the crux of the matter hasn't yet been addressed because it's all well and good moaning (rightfully so it seems) but we should be asking the question WHY they choose to do things this way, at these locations etc etc etc.

When you begin to answer this question, you then begin to unravel the real problem you guys face ........

Combination of incompetancy/bad decisions, and of the desire not to spend money?

.......you are getting close to the top of the class young Rosie :)
All you need to do is add a little smattering of shifting priorities and you are pretty much on the money .....

I think they made a pretty fair effort (compared to last year's Campaign) at Basildon but once again compromised some of what should be high priorities and this event seems to have regressed somewhat .....
Still, you get what you pay for, don't you?
