You cave in to easily
You ARE right - it IS bad for the sport when teams bring in hired guns, just for the sake of qualification/not being relegated - or whatever - because it creates an artificial quality, that once the teams looses its hired guns, is gone.
I have no problem with what the Bullets are doing - or what DYE has done with Nexus - because they are seriously integrating the players - heck - Oliver and Pete have been with the Bullets for 4 years, and go to Hungary regularly to practice with the team.
And - our sport being what it is, with only 15 major events in a year, it is only logical that the best players want to play in several leagues.
BUT - the important point - to me - is how it is done.
If the players are fully integrated, practice with the team, etc. - I have absolutely no problem with it... if they are just brought in for events - I think it sucks.
To me, however bad it is in the CPL - it is getting ludacris in the SPL.
Teams like Instinct and Hellwood bring in players that are far beyond the level of the team, and that have no affiliation with the team what so ever - except for getting paid to guest this season.
That just SUCKS - for the teams that instead opt to work with the roster they have..... especially in a division where a full 6 teams will get relegated.
I am actually a little sorry that the NPPL date clash was fixed - because I would have liked to see those teams without their ringers.... I bet you they would be found a completely different place in the ranking, if that happened.
Now - none of all this is "illegal" as someone wrote - it is fully within the rules.
Question then becomes how the rules should be changed - if you agree it is bad for the development of European paintball to have all these hired guns running around.
I heard the IPPU have an interesting suggestion:
Require that teams play in identical jerseys - all the way down to sponsor logoes, team name, etc.
If that were to happen, I am pretty sure most of the hired guns would disappear, as they would be in breach of their primary sponsor contracts, if they were not promoting the right sponsors and the right team... and on the other hand, people like Oliver, Pete, Mikko and Brandon, who are truly part of the teams, would have no problem with playing in identical jerseys.
