Sam,

You need to realise when you are digging yourself a hole and just stop talking. You have already admited that you havent been to an event this year, or seen anyone play - and you clearly dont have an idea about any of your mentioned Pro teams. For your information the TonTons had 2 American players last year, and have 2 this year. If you are going to throw around accusations atleast get your facts straight.

Oppinions are like a*seholes, everyone has one, but clearly everyone on here is tired of hearing yours.

I tired to stop talking a while ago - but people kept bringing it up.

I don't need to go to an event to be able to say that bringing in ringers is wrong matey
How would you feel if your team was one event away from winning the series title...then in the last event team X roster Dynasty to play for them - they knocked you out in the quarter finals and as a result you lost the title...at the same time team X save themselves from relegation...

Last year - in Paris, TonTons had 4 US players...or at least 4 players wearing the US team shirts (can't remember the team off the top of my head) and i remember people commenting on that...

And if people are tired of hearing my "arsehole" then why the **** do they keep dragging the subject up?! I use you as an example...as far as i was concerned the topic of discussion was closed - but you had to go and drag it back up for no reason what-so-ever.

Anyways - i'm completely happy with teams bringing in ringers in order to help themselves keep their spots and force those teams that fight fairly for their spots to be demoted  hmmmm

You cave in to easily :D

You ARE right - it IS bad for the sport when teams bring in hired guns, just for the sake of qualification/not being relegated - or whatever - because it creates an artificial quality, that once the teams looses its hired guns, is gone.

I have no problem with what the Bullets are doing - or what DYE has done with Nexus - because they are seriously integrating the players - heck - Oliver and Pete have been with the Bullets for 4 years, and go to Hungary regularly to practice with the team.

And - our sport being what it is, with only 15 major events in a year, it is only logical that the best players want to play in several leagues.

BUT - the important point - to me - is how it is done.

If the players are fully integrated, practice with the team, etc. - I have absolutely no problem with it... if they are just brought in for events - I think it sucks.

To me, however bad it is in the CPL - it is getting ludacris in the SPL.

Teams like Instinct and Hellwood bring in players that are far beyond the level of the team, and that have no affiliation with the team what so ever - except for getting paid to guest this season.

That just SUCKS - for the teams that instead opt to work with the roster they have..... especially in a division where a full 6 teams will get relegated.

I am actually a little sorry that the NPPL date clash was fixed - because I would have liked to see those teams without their ringers.... I bet you they would be found a completely different place in the ranking, if that happened.

Now - none of all this is "illegal" as someone wrote - it is fully within the rules.

Question then becomes how the rules should be changed - if you agree it is bad for the development of European paintball to have all these hired guns running around.

I heard the IPPU have an interesting suggestion:

Require that teams play in identical jerseys - all the way down to sponsor logoes, team name, etc.

If that were to happen, I am pretty sure most of the hired guns would disappear, as they would be in breach of their primary sponsor contracts, if they were not promoting the right sponsors and the right team... and on the other hand, people like Oliver, Pete, Mikko and Brandon, who are truly part of the teams, would have no problem with playing in identical jerseys.

Nick - i am fed-up with having people bitching at me and telling me to shut up.
I know i'm right - but everyone else seems to want these leagues to be dominated by hired guns, or think that i was personally attacking Nexus even after i stated several times that if Brandon and Mikko are gonna be a part of Nexus then i have no problem with it.

I like the idea of teams having to wear the same gear - and agree that that will help seperate the hired guns from the team players.
I understand that the game being the way it is, with only 15 major events, pro players will want to play more than one series - so for now being in 2 teams is kinda acceptable - so long as they really ARE in those teams and not just jumping on for a free weekend of paintball in Europe 5 times are year for a bit of fun.

Thanks for your support mate :D

The thing is, people readily assume it is about jealousy - that I begrudge teams being able to bring in those players.

It is actually not so - nothing would be easier for me than bringing in 2-3-4 top Pro players from the US - I do actually know a good deal of people in this sport..... if someone was in doubt about that ;)

To me, this is very much about how best to develop European paintball, to a level where we can compete with the best US teams down the line.... and benching your homegrown talent, to bring in ringers just for 5 events, is most definitely not the way to go.

If we perpetuate this thing, with ringers being allowed - what happens when we play against the best US teams is, that the ringers are suddenly no longer available - and our teams then suck.

Someone is bound to come on here and say something like "but you learn a lot playing with top players" - but that is a half truth - you would learn WAY more paying for these guys to come over and train you for a weekend, rather than having them play for you.... especially in an X-Ball format, that relies so much on individual skills.... and where it is really showcased how the teams with ringers field 3-4 players that are average - and the ringer(s) then wins the points for them.

I understand why the teams do it - they fear not performing well enough to stay in the league (or reaching the podium)..... but I would like to see rules instituted, that limited the possibility to a great degree.

The jersey thing is a start - down the line I would like to see the 3 major leagues sharing player registration, so that players could be prohibited from dropping a division in another league.

About this whole barrel sock incident, as I see the video it wasn´t a "541" being pulled - every time the refs pulls someone you see him looking back at the start gate, since I can´t see how many socks were actually there I can´t be sure of course, but it honestly looks like he´s counting the amount of socks NOT kept on the player - as is clearly stated in the rules they should be due to safety reasons -and then pulling a 141 for each of them!!! ;)
Infact, if you watch the video, you can clearly see atleast two socks being thrown behind the start gate. So I'd assume you're correct.

lol... well the score sheet said... '4-4-1' for a barrel sock left at the start gate... any way a sock being left at the start gate still is't a 1-4-1!!! the player who left the sock there is elminated!!!!

Yes but saying "what? where?" to a ref, when he is clearly giving the player the 1-4-1 sign is also an offense. I dont agree with the penalty, but its in the rules. So basically your beef should be with the rules, and not the ref.

(Im going on what has been said in previous posts, I didnt see the game live)
