Valid points Olly. But to sum it up then were being held hostage to some 15 year olds weekly pocket money allowance...

Perhaps they should play golf or at least stay in the woods and keep it fun.
Then where do new tourney players come from? If it weren't for all the kids and adults spending hard earned (or Mum's) money on paintball we wouldn't have sponsored teams, paint deals etc etc. There's a bit of a fashion at present for criticising the fun player for not playing the NPPL etc but without them the money for such events wouldn't be forthcoming. Your argument is like dropping golf novices into the Rider Cup and telling them to go home if they don't like it.

However, I am yet to see a particular valid point for ramping other than 'because we want it and the mills have it'.
At this stage the only valid reasons that have been made is to stop gun cheats (but thats off topic from the point I am trying to address) and to simulate the millenniums (definately on topic and very good reason to ramp). Other than these the only conclusion that has come to light is personal preference for each mode. My qualms is how many people have played using both modes though...

I think that using ramping makes paintball more fun to play and others will come to that conclusion IF they gave it a chance.

Does it stop gun cheats though? Just because you don't catch them, doesn't mean they aren't doing it. I'd bet it's easier to hide a 'breakout mode' in a ramping tournament than it is a semi. There's always atleast one gun pulled at every masters for ramping or bouncing, so they do (sometimes) get caught.

The point about emulating the mills is valid to a certain extent, but isn't that already available at several other locations/series? And will be available at the 7man masters soon from the looks of it?

If I had the money I'd love to play both to be honest, 5man and 7man one semi and one ramping. But I think the 5man works how it is, sure it's not perfect, but nothing ever is.

Edit:

As you've said it comes down to differences of opinion. However, there seem to be two groups of people at the moment. There are people like myself, who think that semi has it's place and that there are several series that do run ramping so people have the choice and choice is good. And there seem to be the people that want ramping, in every tournament, with no choice and if you dont like it tough.

The woodsball scene would still provide us with players. Hopefully those who want to play at a more competitive level and not just for a hobby. Companies will still make money on their products regardless of paintballers playing supair or not.

I am not bashing those who play for fun. In fact it will be more fun if they were to play an event where people were not in it just to win.

Nothing will stop gun cheats. A hidden firing mode is always going to be hard to find and prove regardless of format. Thats how they are programmed to be. The people who do get caught in the Masters IMO are just as much clueless as what they are malicious. Im not bothered about this issue though as my reason for wanting to use ramp modes is based entirely on how much fun I have using it.

Its not just emulating the bigger leagues though but more so the players from these better skilled leagues. If the yanks play mostly with ramping on then we should (I am assuming here from online clips/2nd hand experiences; let me know if its totally wrong).

If I had the money I would play every type of paintball under the sun. I dont. Which is why I am being selfish and want my local series to use ramping where its wanted. How many teams in the upper divisions DONT want ramping?

Thanksfully the NQ is just round the corner and caters for players with the opinions as me.
