Dont think we (TFP) haven't noticed the text talk either...

edit: Who has polled the 'majority' of these new players to find out what they do and dont like?

the masters 7 man is supposed to be millenium rules so it should have millenium ramping.

For those teams who want to play the millenium these tournaments are the closest thing we can get in the north of the uk so at least the div 1 teams should use ramping.

As for the 5 man the fields are considerably smaller so ramping is less appropriate in my opionion however if there is no better way to 'police' the guns in semi mode perhaps ramping at a lower bps might be a good alternative? so all the guns are the same and the risk of people getting 'hurt' is lowered.

id rather not have ramping because it spoils the game, semi means that youve got to use your fingers and get up to do 12/13 bps not just 3 or 4 bps ansd let the marker do the rest.

i dont have a marker that will do ramping:rolleyes: as i have a ion and dont have a decent board in it yet lol

and as a front guy i dont want backs having ramping to stop me hitting the snake/50 off the break coz they can just consontrate on getting the ramping going and getting to their bunker whereas with semi they have to consentrate on fingers to stop me ;) good look :p hehe onli jokin

I'd question whether using ramping would make games more exciting to watch, especially at anything but the top level, but the way to get paintball more popular is to get people playing, not watching. Using semi means you get a learning curve; as you get better at shooting your gun faster and controlling your overshooting you also get better at avoiding getting shot (in theory). Thus new players don't get instantly blasted off the field by other new players in love with their gun's instant firepower. Let the pros use ramping if they like by all means; as the last few years have shown if you don't let them use assistance to shoot fast they either learn or cheat;) their way to it and fair enough. But let the new players start at a level that's less scary and more challenging and they're more likely to come back for another go. Create an environment where everyone is slinging buckets of paint around from minute one and you risk driving people away or back to the woods;)
Olly, this is the first and only relevant reason againt ramping that has been argued so far.

Cant the newer players just play at a level/division where they wont be considered as just fish in the barrel? If its ramping or not; I feel if a team is going to be humiliated then its going to happen one way or another and a learning curve will still be existance. As a competitive person I consider this learning curve to be more educational and beneficial in my overall game.

This thread will eventually turn into UK tourney scene = recballers on supair so I may aswell make the point now. Other than misinformation it looks like the main reasons for people not changing to ramping is that they dont want to play above themselves on a fun day out. Fair comment?

bloody hell this arguement started between 3 or 4 of us after eastie posted up bout rampin in the UKM and now its a full blown thread arguement.. luvin it

as i put b4. WHY MESS WITH PERFECTION..

im sure 99% of UKM players luv it just the way it is..

MUCH LUV
Dave
Dave, This argument is years old. Nothing has changed though.

Who are you or what experiences have you attained to say whats perfection or not? I love the UKM as I love all the wonderful people you meet on your travels (how gay off me). To say its perfect is pretty niave unless you enjoy no shows, sporadic bunker positioning and hourly waiting times. This is why I fail to comprehend or acknowledge your point of view towards ramping.

Why thank you:eek:

I see what you're saying but I do feel ramping makes the new player experience a bit more daunting, as it's easier to overshoot someone through lack of experience rather than by being a better player. I personally quite like Mill ramping as you have more control over how fast you shoot but it's still easy to kick it in, but I think semi still has a place, and also levels the field a bit for those who can only afford basic guns or buy second hand kit which hasn't the latest features. A novice division with ramping will be more imposing than the same in semi, so by all means bring in the ramping but be prepared for some folk to move on/elsewhere with the increased cost if nothing else. 'But I use the same amount of paint in semi' says Mr Experienced player; fair enough but the novices will burn more as they can shoot far quicker than otherwise and will just hose bunkers all day, again putting them off a bit when the bill comes in. We all love the game and make sacrifices to play, but if you're trying to decide if paintball is the pastime for you and get hosed and skint in a day then you might just try golf instead;)

Valid points Olly. But to sum it up then were being held hostage to some 15 year olds weekly pocket money allowance...

Perhaps they should play golf or at least stay in the woods and keep it fun.

People keep saying that the 'semi-brigade' dont have any valid points. However, I am yet to see a particular valid point for ramping other than 'because we want it and the mills have it'.

Surely having different formats and more choice is no bad thing? The PA uses ramping, I believe the 7man Masters will be using ramping in the higher divs (or possibly all divs) I still can't see any reason why the 5man masters *should* change to ramping.

With regards to cheating, yes, there are people cheating now, we all know it. However, surely it's easier to spot a gun ramping to 15bps in a semi tournament than a gun ramping to 20bps in a 15bps ramping tournament? (without the proper equipment anyway).
