Shouldn't the focus of any team be competing in a series, rather than stand alone events anyway?
In normal circumstances I would agree Jay, but by the look of it, it would seem as tho we have a contracting interest.
Any stand alone events promoted would inevitably be a precursor to a domestic series some time in the future and the reason i would advocate such a strategy is because these stand alone events would generate a momentum (if they were good enough) and that momentum would hopefully begin to influence the UK tourney player population.
Basically, I am trying to think of a way whereby we can generate real interest and real focus on the back of a really well promoted events.

In this way, we can have a measured development of both event series and tourney teams.
The one thing we do know for sure is - it ain't working at the moment in the UK and at least this way makes a little more sense ..... well until Nick reads this thread and comes up with another 'Brockdorffism' telling me how wrong I am and 'this is how it should be done' :)

Buddha,

Yes series are important in the UK, however a standalone event is just as important on a teams resume as winning a local series. Think about it like football, you have leagues yes, you have cup competition(standalone events) and you have the European Cup(Millennium), now, to win the treble is a great acheivement for any team, but how many UK Teams can afford or indeed have the drive to go for the treble...none really, how many have the drive to go for the double?? Now how many go for the league events thinking winning Div3 of your local series is a massive selling point for the team???? Come on, we have all seen the please sponsor me E mails about how the team won the East of Glasgow 5 man series can you sponsor us!!!!!

When I talk to customers on my paintball site about my Team I will talk about how they have taken various 1st, 2nd and 3rd place trophies in UK events regardless of divisions, I will then talk about how they took 2nd and 3rd in the European Indoor Championships, now from a marketing point of view adding in the European Part makes it seem alot bigger than what it is, it's the label placed on that standalone event, doesn't matter if the only European Team at the event were from Scotland, it's still the European Championship and people kinda go wow, is it that big!!! Hence using a play on words if you like make it look alot bigger and brighter than it is, nothing against the European Indoor but as you can see from the reponse this year it's lacking in actual European Flavour.

Also, local events are once a month, if teams are so serious about turning UK Paintball around then why are they not attending the standalone events?? These events are once a year, with the chance to get drawn and play against much bigger teams, I mean, before the Millennium Series changed the ruling on who you would play at events you would have the chance to go on a field against some of the greatest teams in the World, regardless of your stature as a team, I have had the privilage to play against Bob Longs Ironmen, Avalanche in 2001, Strange, NeXus Eclipse, Aftershock to name but a few, this was in the Millennium Series where you could go on that field and cause an upset, you could beat a top team and have bragging rights for at least the weekend, where has this gone!!! Now you play a Millennium and you will be drawn against Teams in your Div or lower, there is no fairy tale, there is no FA Cup dream of Hull beating Chelsea, nothing.

As far as Robbos comments on someone putting on a one off standalone event in the UK that will blow your mind, YES, please someone, anyone, just do it, bring back the passion, bring back the chance to be a giant killer for once in your life!!!!

I don't know any company on the PLANET, that could acheive such a thing, with a passion for the game how it used to be played, no politics, no bull, just a well put together one off event that will blow you away....I mean, there are alot of EGO's out there, maybe it's time we put them all in the same place at the same time and maybe we would have something that would ECLIPSE all other standalone events ;)

Or maybe it's the East of Glasgow 3 man series for me as the dream has well and truly faded :(

On another note with regards to leagues and standalone, why do teams play one off events in a league other than to try and win that event and not the overall league?

Take any series, NPPL, Millenium these are leagues right? But a team will enter this league for a one off standalone event knowing fine well that they are not going to win the league simple because they won one event??

Toulouse is part of the Millennium League, but it's called the Paintball World Cup, so they will enter it, because if they win it then they have the right be it rightly or wrongly to say they have won the 7 man World Cup. So as I have said before, standalone is just as important as league, if it wasn't then teams would not travel, teams would not play one off events and Millennium series would pretty much fall apart if all teams that played this "League" did it for all events in order to win the league, rather than 50% of the entries being teams doing a one off standalone event.

See my point?

What if we bombard PWD with emails begging ....... wait ......... asking for them to do something for us? If they have enough interest, it has a better chance of happening.

Anyone have an email address thats not the sales email address?

What justification is there for someone like Planet sponsoring someone who does well in a UK league, the only reason these teams get discount is becuase of the numbers in their squad and their influence over new players who these teams often introduce and encourage themselves; hence the influence.

No one here is going to buy whatever markers NH use just because they won the masters last year.
hence the correct me if im wrong thing

but yeh i now look at it differently thanks for the time to break down my comments and make me think in a clearer way on this subject

i may sound like a nob when i said that but im genuinely thankfull for it

i think russ has made a good point with it being too many in one month / calendar year for everyone to ideally turn up to

I ain't saying that there shouldn't be any stand alone events, I'm talking about the team's focus.

Besides competing in the Dutch national League and the European league, the team I play football with also plays some one offs. Why do we play them? Well, fun mostly. We play them in preparation for the season to kick off, and we play them as a chance to for our rookies and second stringers to get some extra reps in a proper game situation.

But obviously, even though we play these games with the intent to win them, they are not our main focus. Our focus is getting another championship in the national league and getting as far as possible in Europe.

That's also how I see these stand alone paintball events. They are a great chance to give new players and back ups some more trigger time. So in that way, yes they have a very important purpose, as they are a great way to draw in new players and to keep your non starters happy. But they should never be what a team is all about.

That's what I'm saying mate, yes league is important but, we also need the standalone events, to do exactly what you say. Teams can't just have winners of Div4 blah blah league and approach a sponsor, they need something else, also, your right, standalone are a chance to try out new players, and maybe chill a little depending on the type of tournament and what is at stake if you win it and don't, it also gives the team something to aspire to, for example, if Clan went to HB in March and won that Division then woo hoo....what a selling point, but if they went to Glasgow 5 man rookie tournament and lost it would be like....so!!
