Okay guys been sitting here thinking and I'm wondering what excatly is happening with the UK Tournament Scene.

Now, I'm not talking Leagues, whether it be UKM, PA, NSPL or whatever but standalone events in the UK.

For the last year we have seen Campaign Cup, Euro 5 man and Euro Indoor all struggle for UK tournament teams to enter, is this a trend, are more teams either training or putting all their efforts to leagues?

Couple of years ago all these standalone events were doing well with UK Teams playing them, Campaign being the biggest with a good UK showing, Euro Indoor with 60+ teams and Euro 5 man doing it's fair share as well. So my question is this, are we seeing a decrease in UK based tournament paintball teams? Are teams training more hence less events, are people losing the buzz of winning one off events and thinking more in terms of leagues?

Discuss.....

to be fair many teams are probably only playing leagues due to sponsorship

they all want it few have it

sponsors mainly want to see you win leagues and have good standings in leagues in order for your sponsorship to go up (correct me if im wrong but it seems obvious)

also when teams want to perform well in these leagues they would probably want to train

now why not use these one off events to train?

too much money? not enough sponsorship? who knows!

I hope that enough teams do make it to the indoor because its worth it for the experience

I don't think the training issue plays a part in this at all, I believe it is just toooo many events in the calendar and teams have not got the resources to enter.
The European indoor was always guaranteed 50 plus teams and seem to be around the twenty odd mark at the moment even with a great paint deal on offer.
The leagues have to accept some responsibility for the demise of stand alone events.
And teams have to demand what they want, ie: if teams want to do a stand alone event in February they should put pressure on the series events to,
A, allow a team to miss some events like only counting the top eight scores for the eventual champion.
B, not run events every bloody week/month or make them stand alone events so teams are not required to attend every one.

I realise I represent the PA who require a team to attend every event but that is why we only had six a year, and that is reduced to four events this season for the Xball.
If teams realised at the moment they hold all the cards, they could get things changed.

Fair point but surely knowing your team won the Campaign Cup, Euro Indoor or Euro 5 man would stand you in good PR sted with your sponsors? Also Proto try and remember this is UK we are talking about, sponsors in the UK are few and far between, to come 1st in Div 2 of some local league means nothing to your sponsors and as such your sponsorship would not take a massive increase, however to win a standalone event and win Div 2 of your local league would be better no?? Is it that we are putting all our eggs in one basket when it comes to what we want to do?

I know for a fact the last time I played this it was European, and there were European Team there, in fact first time I played it I played against Malera, and at one event I actually saw Ed Poorman in the bar!!!

But just look at the team list now, today, is the UK losing it's appeal to European Teams as well as their own?

What justification is there for someone like Planet sponsoring someone who does well in a UK league, the only reason these teams get discount is becuase of the numbers in their squad and their influence over new players who these teams often introduce and encourage themselves; hence the influence.

No one here is going to buy whatever markers NH use just because they won the masters last year.

John and I were talking the other day about how many leagues/events are now up and about in Europe; perhaps this has something to do with that.

After reading a lot of these posts and some good points made re stand alone events, it would seem as tho a white knight company is needed who might wanna invest in some domestic events with a view to expanding parochial horizons toward a more European theatre of operation ..... hmmmmm ..... I wonder who would be perfect candidates to take UK ball by the scruff of the neck and make it worthwhile again to pick up a marker and go to play tournies..... come on guys, it don't take much to work out here .. if I were you .... I might make some form of representation to you know who and if you haven't worked out who I am hinting at here .... try rearranging these letters .... P ... W ... D .... seems like a perfect fit to me ...and just another great idea from yours truly :)
