Interesting potential here though Missy, an investment company coming in for the league ... Hmmmmmm there has to be something else going on in the background to this one, there just has to be something else.........nobody would come in just for a league ...no way :)
Suprisingly little faith from someone who has always been one of the more vocal NPPL supporters. Thank the lord you weren't involved in the negotiations, we would have ended up with a pack of crisps and a mouldy apple... ;-)

Missy hit what I think is the most important piece of this:

The league is not owned by a manufacturer/distributor. This is as it should be, and opens up some doors not otherwise available.

And, the "turf" will be replaced with Turf.
I agree with you Chicago, in that the league should be devoid of any manufacturer / distributor/ team interest but do you think it will stay like this?

The reason I ask this is because it is self-evident that owning and running a league such as this ain't exactly gonna make millions, and if this is so, why would they invest in it???
And this is why I think something else is brewing in the background ...

Comments ?

Well, you may not make millions charging entry fees, but there are certainly millions to be made if you can be successful at getting out-of-industry involvement.

No, it's not. But there's no reason it SHOULDN'T be a million miles long. Someone just needs to tell them that we're open for business. We have a product they would pay for, they just don't know it's for sale.

Chicago, Chuck has been telling all and sundry we been open for business since the NPPL was incepted...and the notion that 'there's no reason it shouldn't be a million miles long' is just another one of those thinly veiled 'ifs' ...... if my aunt had nuts she'd be my uncle.

I'm afraid 'ifs' and 'shouldv'es' don't cut no ice mate, it's all about actualities Chi Town.

And if you are suggesting the NPPL product would be bought for the purpose of the tourney demographic and then by extension (a diminishing extension by the way) the rest of paintball, this only holds water for a company that intends to get into the market place, which is what I have already mentioned anyway.
The tourney demographic alone has no real merit outside of paintball Chicago because if it did have, it would have been snapped up a few years ago mate when TV had started sniffing and Chuck was on his rounds.

I don't think the message has been quite right, and I don't think the access has been there either. Paintball STILL isn't on the map of the people whose opinion matters, and that's a huge obstacle. The people who spend marketing and advertising dollars already know what BMX, snowboarding, etc, are. Since they already know what it is, they're willing to spend money on it. They didn't become aware of those things on accident, a decade or so ago, the people involved made a huge push to make them aware. The resources to do that push I don't think have been available to paintball people.

There's a huge difference between going to someone and trying to sell them on something when they don't know what it is and going to someone and trying to sell them on something they already want to be a part of. We have to move ourselves from the first category to the second category. Doing that on a large scale takes resources, because people who don't know paintball is valuable are generally not going to set aside the time to even listen to you so you can show them why it's valuable. They have far too many other things going on and hear from far too many people who think their thing is the next great thing.

Even the act of someone not affiliated with paintball buying a paintball league in and of itself is an indication to others that there might be something worthwhile there.
