I'm new to paintballing, in fact my first sup air expereince is yet to come, but if I didn't have a mate who had some experience before, I'd have had no idea where to start. Its really difficult to find good information on what to do as a newbie, its difficult to find what kit you need, and a clear explaination of of whats going on. Luckily I went to a punter day at warped sports a while ago and had a good chat with them and then with they guys in the warped sports shop, they were really helpful.

In my opinion the simplest and cheapest option to start with would be a clear no jargon website, laying out the rules, what you need, and where you can play. Then flyer this at punter days, maybe some city centers. Who'd require a fair bit of work and a lot of co-operation from all the guys running walk on days

just my 2p worth

Send invites to Loaded, Nuts and Zoo and see if they want to battle it out between each other. The winners will of course boast their claims of greatness in there magazine.

Ionbadger speaks wisdom

I think Ionbadger has hit the nail on the head.

What the main problem is that no-one is willing to invest money to do the general promotion that we seem to need. Soo... why not some kind of PGI sponsored website which serves as an impartial wealth of knowledge with regards to paintball. What do I need, what different types of play are their, etc, etc, etc

Their's enough talent within this forum to make such a website, and for a few boxes of paint or something I'm sure a few of the IT / webdesign students here would come up with a cracking looking website all under the PGI banner.

I mean a lot of the information is here in the form of sticky's or posts.. it's just a case of making that information into a clear no jargon sub-website of the PGI one?

Websites are relatively cheap and easy to maintain when compared to other forms of marketing, and are easily promoted to most.

Ok... I know this thread is mainly about tournament play.... but I think the website should divuldge into promoting and informing about all aspects of paintball including scenario play, woodsball, that kind of thing.

It would discuss different types of starter equipment, minimum requirements for walk-ons, tourney play, rules, legal jargon, etc.

I myself learnt most of what I needed to start out by this forum, and I mean frankly I didn't even know what equipment I needed to meet minimum safety requirements, I just had an enthusiasm to start better paintball than punter sites had to offer. And spent many an hour on this forum gaining info.

As Ionbadger said... just my 2p worth...

an idea came across my mind earlier today, youve seen those sport/comedy movies "like we are the champions" where a team of a sport set out to win a title/competition, why dont we try and get a film company to make one of those, but with paintball, a comedy of a paintball team tryign to win a major tournament, a group of rookies who try to win it big, full of comedy and would interest newbies into hte sport thinking they can do well and win big!

if this idea of mine goes ahead i get the staring role:cool:

I've just completely re-read all of this thread and its just dawned on me, why?

Why do we honestly want to see the sport grow any bigger in the UK? Personally I'm actually quite happy with where were at. Its a close, solid community and we have everything readily available. Theres a steady flow of players getting hooked annually and the fact I see the same faces at tourneys is pretty awesome. I think the only thing we still need right now is some decent professional representation. Thats not a dig at pro players already gracing the British lines but instead a plea for more training, more opportunities to arise within the UK paintball community.

This is just a personal observation, no harm, arguments or flaming intended :D
