Also, Impact's Roster includes Dave Bains - I thought he had retired?

Possibly he's just a reserve player, or to get an extra body to help in the pit to be co-manager with Bart. There is a back centre bunker that he can actually play on this layout though...

Dave wanted to retire, Bart wouldn't let him! ;)

I expect to see Dave resume his mostly coaching/management role, especially when Bart can't be about. He finds it tough to keep up with the training regime with his family and business commitments. Rostering him makes sense though, imagine having him in the pit and not being able to play him if you wanted/needed to!

I guess it keeps the manager/pit crew spots open too. Actually that touches on something I've been thinking about for the NXL - are the roster sizes too big?

There's a lot of people saying that there's a divide between the top and bottom groups of teams in the States, and that there aren't enough top teams/players.

Then you have teams like Impact, Heat and Dynasty who can run/almost run two complete lineups of top players. Reduce the roster size and you could add another couple of Pro teams into the mix, at a decent level. You may need to add in a "sister squad" rule or something to allow cover for long-term injuries, and find sponsor support, but what do you think?

(possibly going off-topic here!)

I thought there was some rule, about roster sizes limited to 10 or 11 this year, which did impact a couple teams.

On the Impact series and Heat one ,both talk of reducing rosters to about 8 ,even though 10 gives you a midweek ,5v5 training match to work .The gap between top and bottom is ,money pure and simple. There are plenty of talented American players .What there isn't is teams with budgets for training coaching staff ,and pit crews to be taken everywhere .Nothing new about this.

A mid-week 5v5 would be OK if none of your players had to fly or drive ridiculous distances to practice ;)
Or work... I was referring to Rusty Glaze saying he liked the "all Dynasty " practices ,since he could get the "opposition" to play in a certain style. In the Impact series they say there are too many players not getting spins in matches ,though getting seen in training . 2 lines nowadays is probably an unnaffordable luxury when all bugets are under scrutiny.I remember the contract of a certain factory team in 2012 stated ,all flights and personal expenses were not covered by players contract.
