can everyone please stop assuming this is about paying £15! the price is a very good price for the cover offered and that is not the problem i have. not once have i said i begrudge paying £15, i just want to know all i can first and have all issues i presented earlier answered.

i do feel a few good points have been raised in this thread.

-A proper cover letter produced for the insurance provided should probably be in effect. mainly to put peoples mind at rest, and to let the custome know what he/she is paying for(i think everyone wants to know that these days)

-The point of starting using cards at the start of next season instead of round 5 to me was a valid point. i think we in england like things simple and theres nothing simpler than to renew your insurance at the start of a new season. you have potential problems mid season with people ''forgetting'' to renew their insurance.

i do however support this fully and can see the benefits of it.

The point of it maybe slowing game times down and such. i think if you maybe tinker around with the way the milleniums do their id card proccess i doubt it would effect any game times at all. at the admin tent one of the clerks(not sure if thats the right name for them) writes down the player id onto a register type sheet.
once in the pitting area there is a designate marshal thats collates all the cards and again writes down the players and id numbers.

This would work but it would need all the buying from the players and teams.

I am seriously considering banning myself from these boards after this last little upset in this thread between myself and Asylum Killer ..... reason?

...er ... coz I made a pig's ear-ole of myself that's why.

Asylum Killer is a guy called Glen, I had zero idea as to who AK was ... none at all.
He's actually got a brother called Ronnie but I'm still none the wiser as there are plenty of those names around.

Problem for me is, Ronnie is a mate of mine, a mate who did something once of such unbelievable unselfishness that if I told you, I doubt you'd believe me, Ronnie and another guy called Mac D chose their friendship with me above money, and it was a considerable amount of money I can tell ya, it's a long story and I won't bother you with it, suffice it to say, guys like Ronnie and Mac are almost unique in paintball.

In fact, Ronnie and Glen both trained with Nexus when I owned that team and a lot of cold Sunday mornings in the Nottinghamshire countryside were spent with those guys as attempted to raise the bar in UK paintball back 2003-2004.

My point is, Glen is inflicted with the same sort of character as me in that we both fly off the handle quick if we think we are being attacked.
What made matters worse was I had zero idea it was Glen and so when I steamrolled into this thread with all the panache and subtlety of a pregnant hippopotamus, Asylum Killer [Glen] didn't take too kindly to it .. and rightly so bearing in mind he thought I knew his identity.

And so, Ronnie sends me a PM tonight and enlightens me to the identity of AK and then things begin to fall horribly into place ..... d'oh ..... d'oh ...... and d'oh cubed !!!

A subsequent 10 minute fone call with Ronnie was quickly followed by another ten minute fone call with Glen and peace returned to the world of Ronnie, Glen and Robbo .....

Hmmmm.... a lesson learned and one that's left me feeling kinda queasy and I can't apologise enough to Ronnie for freaking him out, to Glen for putting him on the back foot and to my wife for throwing Sunday night's spaghetti bolognaise into my lap whilst muttering,' why don't you just grow up Pete' ..... she's got a point I think :(

A complete misunderstanding! and after a few minutes on the phone all is good with the paintball world again. I would like to apologise to Pete Robinson for any petty, silly remarks I have made in my former posts. Pete has and always will be a hero of mine, a man who we all know has the best interests of "paintball" on a global scale. He has forgot more than most of us ever learned about this beautiful sport. My team structure, training and tecniques still aspire to Robbo's learning curve and I think I have read every word the man ever wrote! Anyway, Sorry again Pete!:D

I will look forward to more discussion on the subject at hand and hearing from Richie and the BOP crew to see what we can work together to come up with!

Like I have said before I have no enemies in paintball, just rivalries and passion!

Hello all.
Well i go away for a few days and what happens!!

Glad its all sorted now onto business!

From the BOP point of view i would like to clarify some of the points that have been raised on here and on Facebook.

We carry all the relavant insurance required by law to run the events, however you as players are not directly covered for yourself or kit. We carry Public Liability, Employer's Liability and products liability. We DO NOT have the players insured in anyway and signing the player waivers you play the events at your own risk.

Also with the air related issues, HPAC carry the relavant insurance to cover them, and any incident occuring from there own equipment but not from incidents involving your own air system.

However, with the UKPSF membership scheme you do have a degree of cover. For both injuries arsing from playing and god forbid any major incident with air systems/equipment failure.

So in short, if you do not have the UKPSF membership then you are 100% liable should an incident arise and another person, yourself are injured or persons effected from the cause!!!!
Some of you claim your own cover in place, is it paintball specific? As insurance companies are ****s at the best of times, will they pay out??

But that also leads us into another potential mind field. As a few of you still have some valid points on clarification as do i with some of the info i have recieved i will keep rd 5 and 6 as a voluntary initiative for the scheme or until we can clarify all the raised points.

I will say that i have known Steve, and his work with/as the UKPSF since i first came into the game when i was 14. He is a stand out guy and his work is of a nature that is behind the scenes not many know or appreciate what he has done for the sport, nor would he really want ya too. This membership scheme is a genuine thing and not some money making scam.
And once all the querries and points have been clarified we will be enforcing this as if we are ever to be taken seriously as a sport then we need guidelines and rules to follow as well as a proffesional body to support us and help grow us!!!! And that includes the safety aspect as well as rules.

As a seperate point i would like to point out some observations from other sporting disciplines that we can draw parallels from.

For instance my wife does horese riding and eventing and is a member of British Eventing (BE).

Now to practice on her own yard/arenas she doesnt "need" insurance as its all at her own risk.

When she rides in the smaller events, or un affiliated she has to fill out a disclaimer similar to ours where its all at her own risk or what personal cover she has her self.

When she competes in a proper affiliated BE event she is covered to a similar degree as what is offered by the above. However she has to be a member to compete in these events. Granted you can buy a one day pass, but you are limited to a few off these before you either have to have full membership or cant compete. Also the affiliated events are hosted at affiliated sites that meet the BE criteria.

Also she has to be a member and the horse. This year we payed out £90 for one horse, and £120 for Gem for the rolling year. Irrespective of what personal cover we have as well.

I will be talking to the UKPSF and the Fed about everyones concerns and points and seek clarification and some clearer answers asap. We will then liase with you guys the customers as to a working time frame to enforce this.

What we are trying to do together is adopt a proffesional structure for long term stability, and in the short term there will be growing pains as its been an untamed wilderness for so long. We can only do this by working with guys like Steve, UKPSF and the Fed. Hopefully you can see by my points above what we are trying to do in line with other governing bodies.

Rich.

I think it best to leave any comments concerning Steve's paunch well alone Rich, as I hear he might be quite sensitive concerning that area; he would probably prefer to be described as 'stand up' maybes?

One of the biggest pains in the butt I see here is that players are being asked to get this insurance smack in the middle of the season. I am definitely going to have hassle getting my players to sign up for this by August. Simply because as any one who tries to run a team knows – it is like herding cats.

Due mostly to lack of clear information, I was left wondering why I bothered becoming a member last year. Not once was this membership checked. And as such it seemed like a pointless parting of money, hence lack of renewal this year. A better level of clarity regarding necessary information is needed. Without this; I feel people who are wise enough to not blindly part with their cash simply won’t buy this membership scheme.

So I’m left thinking why we aren’t sorting out a scheme between the tournament organisers and the UKPSF, whereby a team can get their yearly insurance sorted at the beginning of the season?

Introduce a system where yearly player insurance/UKPSF membership is covered with entrance fees to the tournaments they play? Have a defined form of getting teams/players their ID badges at the first event of the particular series they play?

It could be worse , you could have to fork out £35 for an ID card that doesn't have insurance , just for one event every year like the team that just want to play Campaign :)

£15... IMO is meh!

I happened to joined up when I first started paintballing, it was June so I have to renew during the middle of the season... thats just the way it is. Yes, I understand that some of you want more details (comprehensive policy letter etc) before departing with £15 and have rightly pointed out the hassle it may cause you that its mid season but for I'm sure we've all come across more costly fee's just to play our beloved game - for example the admin fee to play the mills, even if its one event, yeah it's a pain in the arse but hey... its not a cheap hobby/game/sport... what ever you want to classify it.

Personally, the UKPSF membership provides a shed load of benefits for £15 a year, the same cost of two Caribbean Goat currys at Campaign Cup!
