XBall or 7 Man which is it?

Duffy's right, it's whatever T.V. Land wants us to be, isn't it? If we were to build a strong, quality base though, our league structure wouldn't need to sway next time we're sweating a television deal. I, along with many others, are very concerned about what the NXL (PLP) gets mutated into, if and when, it gets on the air.

Wad, I think Nation vs. Nation will always have a bit more appeal no matter the format. I'd rather cheer the U.S. vs. England than the Ironmen vs. Effect. Even so, the same problems still exist.

All the X-ball fields so far, has only allowed each player one (MAYBE two) option(s) - and that is what makes it boring to watch for an extended period of time - because players go the same place every time.

7-man is no different - if you build a field that allows only for 7 bunkers to go to, you can bet your ass every game will see the same breakout and the same gameplan (apart from those freak occurences where a team does something brilliant or insanely stupid).

Put MORE bunkers on the field - and put all the big ones up front, so that they give a good amount of cover from sweetspotting on the breakout, and you will see teams utilise 6-7 different gameplans in a match - rather than 1 or 2.

What makes ANY sport exiting to watch, in unpredictability !

Otherwise, everyone would sit around watching the potatoes boil for fun !

Agreed.

I spoke to Mike Ratco at Philly and he said that for some unknown reason the number of bunkers on the x-ball field had been going down, but that he was planning to change that at the World Cup, where there would be a lot more bunkers on the fields again.

Having played and watched X-ball I think it's far better with more bunkers.

Steve, make a start and have more bunkers on the field at Campaign :D

Part of the fun for anyone watching a game is that you can see everything unfold, you can see everything that the players can't.
So true!!

It is good to see you guys debating this and I agree with a lot of the things being mentioned. Hopefully this is giving the tournament organisers some ideas new ways to think about.
So I just want to give my "two cents" to this debate...and leave it.

I know this is nothing which are going to happen next year, maybe never, but...

Everytime I've been talking "about the old days" with "old" players, who's been into paintball since "the early days"... One of the things which allmost everybody loved back then, was the "game-situation" where players had to reload or change co-2 cartridge.

I belive that changing the sizes of loaders down to max 100 balls would make the "X" ball games much more interesting to watch and play.
This would deffiniately make the chances of more action /moves to happen in a game. I am not talking about limiting the amount of paint you bring with you, just the loader holding only 100 balls.

"Big loaders" where "invented" with focus on much bigger fields and longer playing time.

I know that a lot of you guys belives that this wont happen, because the paintballmanufactures wont "allow" this to happen because it might seems like it would lower the sale of paintballs in paintball sport (Not recreational/rental). Or another reason allready mentioned in an earlier thread I havent read.
But I hope that the manufactures can see that this would make paintball sport a lot more interesting to watch... and playing it would be both "funnier" and "cheaper" and therefor attract more people both to play and watch paintball.
Much more strategy and variation less spray and pray,...

I know this has to be an agreement made by manufactures and "X" tournament organisers....Or another possiblity,.. guys like "Dick Clarke's Xball Crew" get so much into paintball that they can see this possiblity and changes the rules because they want to see/sell more "action".... also in the Finals ;)

I'm working on it this weekend.
Unfortunatly i have to be discrete about who sees the field designs before we decide on one, as we don't want to be biased about how we chose the fields.

All suggestions have been very helpfull, and i'm confident that we'll come up with a solid field design that will promote attacking play, have good running lanes, and be exciting for spectators to watch.

Thanks for your imput chaps.

BTW this is the only field that we actually design for Campaign Cup. Personally i would like the opportunity to be part of the design of all the fields for Campaign Cup, but for this year Vivian from Adrenaline games is designing them. Hopefully we'll be able to change that for next year.
