Campaign was the first time that I watched x-ball. I was amazed at how fast and aggressive it was and would love to play it one day. However, I was not impressed at the way some of the players reacted to the marshalls calls, particularly team U.S.A. These players seem to forget just how many people are watching them. If x-ball is the new thing, they are not giving the sport a very good name. Was I right in hearing that a U.S.A. player threw his marker at the wall after storming off the field??! I have to admit, the hopper throwing incident between U.S.A. and Denmark was quite funny!

We should not have tolerated as much abuse as we did. But I can say that if any player on any team had thrown their marker, that player would have been escorted off the field and off the whole tourney site.

The player you mentioned did throw his goggles.

Some facts about USA v Russia...

Team Strange didn't want to play the game against Russia and asked us (the promoter and me) to ask Russia if they would agree to not play. The reasons Paul gave were because of the scheduling delays and their desire to be rested and ready for a tough schedule on finals day. Their game would have probably begun around 8:30 PM and would have been over at about 9:45, meaning they would have got back to their hotel rooms at 11:00 or 11:30.

There may have been other reasons they didn't want to play but they weren't expressed during these discussions. They did make it clear after the Friday evening game that they weren't happy with the judging (which was unbiased but there were a few missed calls that really upset Team USA, that's life in PB). They also hated the field and said that it wasn't an X Ball field.

The Russians made it clear when we asked them that they wanted to play. They even suggested a demo game between Russian Legion and Russian Cadets. It took them quite a few minutes of discussion for them to agree to cancel their game and here are the terms:

USA conceded 3rd place to the Russians.

Team USA and Team Russia agreed to split the prize money for 3rd and 4th places 50-50.

These are the facts as I see them.

It is understandable for Team USA to be tired. I was and I didn't have to play X-Ball both nights. What some people seem to forget is that Team USA was Team Strange. They were playing so much ball over the weekend it was scary.

Although they got loads of boos during the Denmark game, I would have to say that in my opinion, Team USA played the more exciting and flair orientated X-Ball. Looking back on it, it was unfair for the whole of the crowd to boo USA, although it was funny at the time. In retrospect it would really get a team down and affect their style of play/sence of reasoning. Although this is no excuse for Team USA's behaviour, the influence of the crowd is another important difference between regular tourney ball, and the super X-Ball!!!

Bring it on, because I am gagging for a game of X-Ball!!! :D

I might be wrong - but are Team Russia not Russian Legion, Team Denmark - Ducklings players, Team Sweden - Joy Division and Others?

Surely the Legion played just as many games as any of the Strange players?

As I've said in another post...

Both the outbursts and the unwillingness to play should be severely punished. X-Ball is meant to be there for the spectators as well as the players. I don't care that they were tired. These guys are meant to be professional athletes.

Split the prize money? You must be kidding. Give it all to the Russians! They wanted to play. They wanted to keep the crowd (and the cameras) entertained. Isn't that the reason these guys are being paid? It is supposed to be entertainment.

If tehy don't entertain, they shouldn't be paid. It's that simple.
