Sorry Eric, but I disagree - I like Rob, his sense of humour always makes me smile and he is a sound, rational chap under normal circumstances, but he should have left the comment as a one-off.

As the ban is only temp. then I think it's suitable - if only as an example to certain other forum members (WGP4life please take note) that such behaviour will be frowned upon.

BTW, Rob - I owe you several beers ese!

If the scripting deserves a permanent ban then surely Rob's anger is justified

Justified anger or not, Rob should have hit the "Report to Mods" button and let them take the appropriate action.

As I said before, I personally have no beef with Rob (actually I think he's on the money imo) but his reaction could cause considerable offence/distress to others who do not know him.

The scripting is passive. If left alone it can do no harm whatsoever to your PC. Only if you physically copy and paste as suggested does it have any effect on your browser.

This vb forum actually denies and disables the posting of javascript as code embedded in the page from a post, and so nothing can influence your PC without your direct interaction. (In running several forums and creating them, i have first hand experience)

Plus modern browsers come with large amounts of security against such javascript nasties, such as blocking certain phrases and functions in the code, so nothing truly harmful could be posted up by WGP4Life.

However, most people are not to know this, which could be used as an argument for banning script posters. On the contrary, If you don't know what something does, Why mess with it? Curiosity killed the cat etc.

So no, script posting should not be a bannable offense, however personal attacks so offensive and in such poor taste as rob tattoos todays should be.

(If you really are worried about scripts, Run Firefox with the NoScripts extension, and if you must run IE [Yurgh] then make sure its the most up to date version)

Good effort, DW. Your vigilance is always appreciated. However, I might point out a couple of things you seem to have overlooked. 1) by the time either I or B3 showed up it was already apparent that a) the script as originally written was non-functional until corrected later in the thread and b) it was harmless. 2) Do you have any idea how many links, videos, scripts etc. have been deleted by the Mods in the past?
But by all means you keep us on our toes. Oh, and did you notice Rob didn't post his objection to what WGP posted? It was never about the post.
Another thing, who's the bigger idiot? The guy who posts some script or the guy who decides to run it without any clue what's goinna happen?

Easy mate, don't go down the same road. The mod's have done their job. Leave it at that. If you start making personal attacks makes you no better IMHO
