As long as they don't take our pints away from us we won't care! :D

Hate to tell you this Manike, but we're already on an extension for keeping pints etc & they are soon going the way of pounds & ounces. You will have to ask for a half-litre of your favorite brew rather than a pint or the landlord will be hauled up before the courts.

What's a babycham? Shame on you for even knowing...

Yeah half litres would be a worry as that's less than a pint...

Oh well do what I normally do when in France... buy by the litre :)

manike (despecrately trying to get his arse out to Lisbon at the moment...)

Exactly Eric...

How do you confuse an American? Show him three shovels and tell him to take his pick...

Mark I was just going to come for the fun and the sun and to write a little report on it... But there is a chance I may have been guested in to play... I'm currently trying to work out flights and if it's feasible or not...

There's a difference between being part of Europe & having to obey their nitpicking little rules (like no pints, ounces, gallons etc) and using the same currency as the rest of Europe (the Euro vs. the £). 3 countries still have their own currency - UK, Sweden & I can't remember the third (but I know it's not a Millennium country).

having just been to france, belgium, luxembourg, germany I can tell you being able to use the same currency in all countries is so nice, not ending up with loads of notes and coins from differnt currencies, all too small to exchange and having to calcualte different exchange rates. If you are a business or consumer, now you dont need to worry about exchange rates and you can compare prices easily. Same with everyone using the metric system, imagine you are selling flour say at 1 mark a kg in Germany, while I sell it at 50p a pound in the uk, far easier if we all use the same measuring and currency, coupled with same laws.

On the other hand, I lived in Brussels for 6 months and saw huge amounts of EU waste and double standards...
