Its quite a scary thought that when I first started balling, head protection consisted of just a pair of safety goggles or if you were lucky a pair of JT whipper snappers. One of my mates had his earlobe torn from a point blank range (ie. 4 inches)

BTW One of my girlfriends old flatmates is best friends with Cat Deely. Anyone wanna swap a decent marker for some of Cats undies?

How decent a marker??? clean or dir....... nevermind  :D

But tourney ballers are pretty reponsible, the ones that aren't are constantly reminded by the 99% that are. It's the plastic crap markers that are appearing that worry me most, lots of kids out there with them now.
Actually, the amount of people I see without goggles on the field, or markers without socks, is quite concerning, particularly at larger events...

yea........ while reffing i can't tell you the number of people that i have to tell to put a barrel cover on or even worse "KEEP YOUR GOGGLES ON WHILE YOU'RE ON THE FIELD, PEOPLE ARE STILL SHOOTING AT YOU"

most common response to the barrel cover "i lost it somewhere"

my favorite response ever "it's only chronoed at 220" (sidenote, i re-chronoed for him and it was 320)

but yea, safety is very important and it doesn't matter how safe you think your marker is (i.e. no air, no paint) as soon as you start screwin around somebody is gonna get hurt

wot scares the **** out of me is these pro teams and thier players who god like ability to play the game is without question but walk round with either no googles or rested on thier forheads check out the smoked dvd and toulouse 2002 its scary wot im a big name pro player no one will have the balls to accidently fire thier marker while im posing for the cameras while not wearing my teams sponsored googles.penalty points and suspensions of games by players who do this and marshalls should be enforced all we as a sport is one big bad f**k up in the press and on the nightly news and you can kiss goodbye to the big outside sponsors lining up to make this great sport greater

so play safe and fast and more importantly fair

anyone think it might ave been the round bit of a barrel plug that hit the poor wee lad? these things do happen, Manike had a close one right next to me at Nottingham the other week , a lad was pissing around with his marker in the "safe" zone and forgot about that last ball in the breech! could ave gotten ugly that one!:D

Yeah, I was not amused by that was I  even though I believe it was a true accident.

Barrel bungs are crap. Always have been, thankfully barrel bags work much better. I'm glad they are becoming the norm.

I don't believe that welt in the picture was from a barrel bung though, because the guys face is covered with paint, and because it's a classis 'cookie cutter' type welt.

I've been shot by a barrel bung before  and you don't get that kind of a cut mark and welt, you just get a bruise (even then it's a different bruise to a paintball) it's not that circular with a white centre (at least mine wasn't).

One of the scariest things in paintball that I have ever witnessed is a guy walking into the safe zone 'with his safety on' and then shooting someone who wasn't wearing goggles in the forehead!!! from about 4 metres away.

I was stunned and then a few minutes later I was shaking with anger at the idiot shooter thinking about how close the innocent guy came to losing an eye!

Yeah i can understand what your saying i work at a paintball site and people ''really'' sometimes don't understand the idea that this paint filled balls can cause some serious damage to the face, hence the mask being enforced to be worn at all times when you are holding a gun with a gas bottle on it....

I have seen one person in the middle of a game that had looked round the side of a tree and lifted his mask and has been shot a inch away from his eye on the top part of his nose... after we led him out to basecamp we rang a ambulance but it wasn't a serious injury no swelling...but still this guy insisted that he still wanted to play!!!..........no chance!!
