Not true. It's a matter of personal opinion what you call your paint slinging device. I feel that yes, paintball guns are paintball guns. But the term 'marker' is often used as a more politically correct form of portraying the item in question. This usually results in less cringes and angry frowns when discussed amongst uptight authorative like people, eg. the council or similar.
Yes, it's also called a 'marker' cos it does 'mark' people. But most people only use this term if they feel uncofortable using the term 'gun' in front of a certain audience. (Parents, younger kids, whoever...)
Why the hell not call it a paintball gun? No matter what we call it, that's not going to make any difference to how responsible the user is or how many injuries it could possible cause. They're build to look like guns, they shoot like guns, you have to cock 'em like guns, they fire pellets (small objects) like guns - (I'm talking in a generalisation), and some are even marketed to look like REAL guns.
I'm no gun freak, but it's true. They are PAINTBALL guns, used to play the game of paintall, and there we go.
(I still call mine a marker whenever I go to the airport and explain my obsession to old ladies!
