Not true. It's a matter of personal opinion what you call your paint slinging device. I feel that yes, paintball guns are paintball guns. But the term 'marker' is often used as a more politically correct form of portraying the item in question. This usually results in less cringes and angry frowns when discussed amongst uptight authorative like people, eg. the council or similar.

Yes, it's also called a 'marker' cos it does 'mark' people. But most people only use this term if they feel uncofortable using the term 'gun' in front of a certain audience. (Parents, younger kids, whoever...)

Why the hell not call it a paintball gun? No matter what we call it, that's not going to make any difference to how responsible the user is or how many injuries it could possible cause. They're build to look like guns, they shoot like guns, you have to cock 'em like guns, they fire pellets (small objects) like guns - (I'm talking in a generalisation), and some are even marketed to look like REAL guns.

I'm no gun freak, but it's true. They are PAINTBALL guns, used to play the game of paintall, and there we go.

(I still call mine a marker whenever I go to the airport and explain my obsession to old ladies! :D )

He he, thanks for saying I'm intelectual (spelt wrong I'm sure - not so smart now, am I?!:D )

But if you wanna read intelectual then take a peak at the Jerry Braun thread - some big stuff going on in there!

(He feebly types whilst trying to understand and absorb the immense amount of knowledge flowing from some of the great minds of paintball in the JB thread......almost.....finished....page... 10.... :D )

Oh I know, I call it a gun most of the time myself. I think the main reason people call it a Marker is to differentiate paintball from the para-military wannabes. Marker is easier to sell than a paintball GUN. For many folks around the US the word GUN is a three letter word (if you catch my meaning). It's not in keeping with the kinder and gentler society that the Mothers of America are trying to ram down our (the US's) throats. So as not to tip off the MOA people have made a kinder and gentler name for our Paintball guns and Marker was born. Personally I want to have "Crayola" milled into the side of my Angel. Make it look like one big crayon.

i think the reason some people call pb guns "markers" is because they are trying to promote the sport, because people who dont have a clue what paintball is about will freak out if you say to them "you have to fire your gun at he opposition " for some people this gives them a bad opinion of paintball. i know kids whose parents wont let them play paintball because they dont wont there kids going near "guns" this is why some people call them "markers"
