Wow!! this Radium pup makes a first post consisting of two sentences and manages to get a barrages of responses, which have now shifted their focus from "are Brit ballers bent?" to "was WWII was won only because of US intervention...."

I was thinking the same thing ... as much as we all don't like him ... he gave me some thing to do ... and some how it morphed (I thing it was mostly my fault) into which side of the pond is better ...

God Bless the P8nt forums ...

News flash! Or should I say history flash?

The USA did NOT pull England's ass out of the war!
The German's were in no position to invade England, since they were unable to achieve air superiority over the UK during the battle of Britain. This was thanks to British pilots with negligable aid from the US. Another reason the Germans could not invade the UK was because their navy was no match for the British Royal Navy. Also, their air transport system (needed to deliver the dreaded Falmschirmjäger, or paratroopers) was in shambles, which was caused by much heavier losses than expected, inflicted by the Dutch, yes the Dutch, airforce!
To Germany England was a fortress that could not be taken!
However, it has to be said that England would have 'lived', but the liberation of continental Europe would have been something that was out of reach for England by it self. For this they did indeed need the help of the USA.
Had it not been for the effort of all the western Allies, we would have been speaking German, or Russian in this part of the world.
And please, do not say 'we' and 'us' when talking about WWII, because most of you (all of you more likely) were not there! Saying things like we and us is making a mockery of the sacrifice made by the generation that did fight for the liberation of our countries, and we all owe these people a tremendous debt of gratitude. I know a number of veterans, and these people go through life traumatised to this day, and if I were to say thank you to these people a thousand times a day for the rest of my life, it would not begin to fill in the debt we owe these people.

Sorry if I rambled on a bit, but I feel strongly about things like these......

Peace.
