We don't even have a proper league system set up with a real NATIONAL league yet. The PA tries to be but isn't big enough.
The only way players get into a major game is through Europes Millenium series.
Who would want to watch Sunday league matches apart from the participants and friends?

has anybody thought how long the mainstreem sports have been going
football = over 100 years
rugby= same
american football =same
motor racing =90 years
even bmx and skateboarding 35-40 years
tourney paintball 17 years roughly

it all takes time to build
just imagine in 50 years time some people will be thinking back and saying my dad played ball with markie or robbo etc
we might not be around but the sport should be

The first Paintball gun, the first snowboard and the first mountain bike all came out at roughly the same time; now, 2 of those 3 things are an accepted part of the Olympics.

I think that tells you all you need to know.

As it's classed as an extreme sport - maybe that's something event organisers can take advantage of?

Perhaps tagging paintball events to other extreme sports expo's, & trade shows (excel, olympia etc), running events alongside festivals etc - much like the bombr games they had alongside one of the mill events - maybe this would encourage further growth or awareness of the sport in the UK!?
(I'm assuming that we're predominantly concerned about the perception of the sport or lack of, purely in relation to the UK)

Also as suggested elsewhere maybe sites that are more accessible and visible to the public would also encourage growth - but then you'll have all the usual problems with local councils and jobsworths who make simply operating a paintball site so difficult, even if its out in the styx!!

It may not be the best televised sport (in comparison to say snooker/darts/F1/curling :rolleyes: ) but it is an exciting sport! And something that seems to have proved its popularity stateside.

But to change public perception is something that would take a whole lot of time, effort & money - without any guaranteed pay off :(

It's still a growing sport, and its growth of the sport that needs to be encouraged - things such as a dominant national league etc will follow naturally in due course.

The 'shooting people' part, is always going to be pointed at by certain people (i.e. jobsworths), but i think that a lot of sports have similar issues, and that on the whole this shouldn't pose too much of an issue.

i.e. boxing/wrestling etc - wwf (or whatever it is) is huge stateside and yet promotes violence?!

Lots of sports are potentially dangerous, F1 etc, we just need to be recognised as another one of them!

This translates to us, as the second people hear of 'guns & shooting' they have certain dispositions. But this is something that could possibly be changed in the public eye, especially by sportmanship at events!
