Ok chaps and chapesses reading the SP Nerve thread in the Tech forum started my brain ticking.

I know it has been often discussed re the point of diminishing returns on a marker, but when and how often do you (personally) decide to upgrade your marker, and what if any performance leap would you expect to gain? The Nerve and new Shocker, sure look the bizness (subjective opinion), but what sort of leap are you going to get over an I-framed Impy???? Sure the Nerve looks much more bling, but how in the name of Zeus's Butt hole are you gonna get a huge performance increase over your already Pimped to the max, full freak kitt'ed, Halo'd, Max-flo'd yadda yadda yadda'd (that's an expression not a performance upgrade) marker???

Maybe it's me but it seems that every time a new marker comes onto the scene it's hailed as the second coming, I mean could we really shoot the current breed of top end markers any quicker????? Plus I always thought accuracy was due to Paint to barrel match sooooo............

I've been guilty of whoring myself to bling bling markers, and as such suffered financially and to some extent in my game. I'd be interested in peoples thoughts re this, and any experiences. Every time I see a new marker, I'm like gimme gimme gimme so I'm sorely tempted to upgrade again, but this time I going to force myself to wait (well only until they bring out the trigger less thought powered e-blade or space based son of Star Wars orbital bombardment Angel)

I've also noticed that markers become unfashionable quicker than you can say "Beck's has got a new hair cut". I mean at the moment you can only just about give Ir3's away. I mean Jesus the thing's like last years bloody Louis Vuiton Handbag, grrrrrrrrr...........

Oh, sorry Smartparts was just using the Nerve as an example. Feel free to post reasons why I should be buying one, I'm an easy sell!

So people whose getting a new fangled marker and why???

I'm always tempted to change markers. I've got a killer Matrix now, but i'm tempted to sell it for a new Ground Zero Matrix.

But i've stopped myself from shelling out tons of cash by doing two things:
1. every time i talk about selling my marker, and buying another, i think about how much paint i could buy with the money saved, and how much training that represents, 'cause i know if i trained hard i will become a better player, better than if i spent the money on a new gun.
2. I get sponsored by Fury sports, and Andy Scutt (the nicest man i know) gives me bits to put in my gun to improve it.

There isn't a gun out there that can make me a better player. That's down to training, and drive. If can go out and work tons of overtime, and make more $$$ and buy a new gun, or i can take the money and get a stack of paint, and practice!

Well being that I am still (relatively) young and I have been paying my own way through p'ball, I have often been seduced by shiney things but not been able to buy them new (too frikkin expensive plus I couldn't afford the paint bills). So I have gone second hand all the time and started off with a mag which I aired, boomsticked, 45 framed, Eclipse kitted etc. Pretty much changed everything bar the body and valve (even that got some of it internals changed). Now it looked very bling bling and I was well chuffed, however I had speant most of my holiday work money on it and I couldn't afford to play much because of it. The next year it was great, however I had money again and as it was coming up to Campaign I decided to part with it (b0ned0me still says how nice it is:() and went for a shocker. This then needed a boomy and powerfeed (£50 F~%KING FOR SOME SMALL BITS OF TUBE WELDED TOGETHER:eek:   ). This was fine and then I got a cheap HSW frame and board upgrade tanks to the ever so nice Mr Truter and this was my new toy and it was great. However, a couple of months later I got the option to swap the shocker for a westwood cocker with blade frame. I gladly jumped at the exchange. However I have spent ****E loads on it as things just didn't seem to go right after the timing went. Now it is sorted and I love it to pieces and I can't wait to use it all season this year.

In answer to your question I have upgraded my marker to make it look more bling and it cost me. I have then upgraded marker for more performance only to be seduced to another marker, and now I finally have the marker I want to keep and use and it is at the performance level that I know I can keep up to. So I have learnt my lessons from my mistakes and even though I will still be seduced by the shiney new Nerve or Shocker I know that I have got an awesome piece of kit and I will not change it.

In all fairness we paintballers are suckers for the latest bling bling marker or upgrade and the manufactureres know it. That is why we are constantly seeing new products being released and there will always be those ballers with the money to go out and buy the new toy and love it until the next shiney marker comes out. Its just something everyone does. All I can say is if you buy a new marker and don't like it as you prefer your old marker, then go back to it and learn from your mistake and not be so hasty to go to the new shiney thing.

L8rz everyone,

Charlie.

I am still shooting my trusty autococker... I have modified it a bit over the years, including new receiver body. But my marker hasn't changed all at once since I started playing tournaments, except when I got my back-up and broke it in. I am still using the original pump arm rod, in fact.
