I think Ben was right in spite of his example, not because of it.
Tournament Paintball has had enough exposure for it to make a bigger breakthrough than it has both here and in the States. The transition does not occur due to lack of knowledge, but lack of genuine interest. Of course I agree that young males on a Punter day who are shown a video of XBall will look at the clothing, crowds and guns and moves and clothes and compare them to what they are wearing and doing and think, **** me, that's pretty cool - in comparison, and that is important - but the fact is they are not making the transition because ultimately, after their day's fun in the woods they lose interest until the next stag weekend or whatever.
You can give me the 800,000 argument and I can flip it back and say, how come then, that the UK's tournament population has been static for a decade? These 800,00 young males have not folowed up their interest one jot have they? Surely if it was that good they would have done...
We could put 200,000 copies of Pgi out through Smiths and we'd sell the same number. We know this for a fact.
By and large, people are not interested in Paintball as a sport - it is niche, it will remain niche, in my opinion. Ben's example may have been poor, but I think he was right irrespective.
