Just FYI, there's an arcade paintball game that'll make you all cringe.

It's called Crossfire - Maximum Paintball, and it's pretty much what you'd expect from the coin-op world. I was surprised to see airball bunkers in it, and I admit it's fun getting bonus points for completely covering an opponent in paint. (A powerup you can get is "larger" paintball size.)

Oh yeah, and the bikini babes you get to shoot too, along with the beer-belly farm hicks. Not kidding either, some of these guys would put any back man to shame...

Anyhow, it's out there. Enjoy.

A pb game would need to be brought out on the PC not a Console. Way to many controls and aspects to cover. Like multiple view (1st and 3rd person, overhead) the diff between leaning and snapping, snapping at diff angles and heights(others wlcome) Id need a massive button layout on the keyboard making it very complicated and hard for others to play.:( Damn!

Maybe someone should release a pb managing game in the stylee of Championship manager. X-Ball based overhead view, you tell your players where to run and where shoot. i think id enjoy it. Anyway, like chunk said, id still buy a copy.

PS.
Works both ways wioth game developers though. Look at Driver 3!! First two superb... third one the worst game ever to be released!!
What. The first 2 are tereble. Boring, slow and low rate GTA's. The third one is a vast improvment with many, better upgrades and options, although still a league behing Vice City.

No..... you need to think a bit more laterally i think. A footballer (soccer) in real life can perform thousands of different moves and techniques, but the best football games only use a few buttons and are best presented on a console with an analogue controller. Sorry kid, the PC, aside from the occasional FPS and RTS is a stagnating market.... console is where it is at. The dual stick nature of modern controllers gives a heck of a lot of flexibility for the developers to allow the player to manipulate their characters movement and posture. My problem with this product in particular is the way it seems to be bound to the 1st person perspective, see above for my reasoning

A paintball games NEEDs to be aimed at the mass-market, it needs to get the kidz interested in the sport in the same way that Tony Hawk and Colin McRae did for skateboarding and rally. This game could, and should do more for the sport than any half arsed TV deal ever could. Making it overly complex and aiming for the market of established paintballers would be a stupid idea and waste a heck of a lot of money.

Sorry man, im a stoner and i was thinking more along the lines of my perfect game. Got an Xbox but the quality and versitility of the PC beats any control pad, but thats just for me. For precise aiming i think the analogue sticks sucks in comparison with a good quality IR mouse.

The problem is that I feel that this game needs to be approached more like a sports game, and less like a shoot 'em up without any killing.

What's important in painball is movement, posture, position, staying alive and THEN shooting other players. Sure thing the mouse is much more accurate than a analogue stick for precise shooting but the sticks are FAAAR superior to a WASD keyboard set up for movement and controlling your player. In sports games, be they football, ice hockey or whatever....you don't set exactly to the pixel where u want to pass the ball/puck to but a lot of the aiming and control is derived from your position and environment (position on field and of team mates). I feel that this model should be adopted for a paintball game so that it can appear as something more unique and as something more than 'a shooting game where no-one gets killed'...........a big risk in my mind.

Thirding

No No No to third person!! it takes away the element of suprise (no bunkering) with all third person games you are behind and above the player looking down thus giving you a un-natural view of the field you can see behind bunkers that normally you could only see the top of, thats why in digital paintball (hl mod) thirding is banned its classed as cheating, first person is the only way to go.

just wait for dpb 2.0 to come out on the net its gonna rock!!

Fair point....but who says 3rd person has to mean that the element of suprise is removed? How about the application of 'fog of war' where by you can't see oposing players on the feild unless the character under your control is aware of them? Such a method would allow a decent amount of field awareness without revealing the position of the oposing players. Also the whole element of hiding and suprise element is greatly reduced in formats such as XBall where you have the crowd and the coach on the side line.
