So if all the top teams jumped off a bridge...

I don't think teams would play 5-man in the same style of X-ball
And therefore, playing 5-man will not prepare you for X-Ball. It's not the same style of game, or the same mindset, it's just the same number of people on the field.
My point is, that if the top teams play 5-man, it would be logical for everyone else to do so as well.
Why? Just because the top teams are doing it doesn't mean that it's what everyone else wants, or what's best for the sport. Training for, and playing X-Ball is the only way to be successful in X-Ball, not whether or not you play 5-man. And if X does come to be next year, it's going to be extremely limited as to who can play, even if there is Div I. Speaking for myself, I'll take 7-man over 5-man any 'ol day of the week. :)

Hey Crescan!

because if X-ball becomes the format
IF....being the key word in that statement. Maybe WHEN it becomes the format of choice we should start to think about it, and not before. X-Ball hasn't even happened yet, and you're ready to toss 7-man to the dogs. And nobody said that 7-man was the ultimate format, but it sure as hell is better than 5-man!

Cart before horse

And if this Dick Clarke thing doesn't happen, or no-one watches it so no-one advertises so it gets pulled, and Super7s keeps going its merry way and all the top teams in the US go 7-Man, would you change back to 7-Man Nick, or would Europe plough a lone X-shaped furrow?

With so much up in the air at the moment it's hard to make a call, which is why I think the EPA is right to try to find out what tournament players actually want, and the Millennium will do well to listen to what their customers are telling them.

At the moment, the Millennium doesn't have a clue what's going to happen and is a more than a little bit scared at having missed the X-boat...but we don't know whether that boat's going to be the Titanic or not. No-one does.

ood point, well made.

So what do you think is going to happen?

What would you like to happen?

Certainly if XBall were to go on offer to more than Europe's top 8, the Sharks would play it ahead of traditional 7-Man, and I guess a lot of Am A teams would feel the same...

What I would like:

An 18 team EXL
If this went ahead, then the number of players involved would be huge! I doubt whether there would be 18 teams capable of playing it, as a lot of the top Am A teams would have their players poached by the Xballing teams.

Currently 18 pro teams have roughly a combined roster of 162 players (based on squads of 9)

18 EXL Pro teams would need at least 13-14 players on each roster totalling 252 players in all.

252-162= 90 players of pro potential/standard who would need to be picked up by the 18 EXL teams.

That would leave around 13 Am A teams without any players at all. Seriously weakening the Millennium Series. What would happen to the rest of the Teams around Europe?

If your going to have 18 EXL teams then you may as well scrap the 7man MS format and have everyone playing XBALL in a promotion-relegation league system

where did you get the number 18 (as in 18 teams)?
A few days ago we were talking about 8 EXL teams.

Are you sure that most pros have 12-14 players in their roster?

I believe most have 12-14 already, so I don't think it would upset the balance much.
AFAIK:

Tigers: no more than 10

Shockwave: 10

Nexus: 9

The Uk teams do not have 12-14 players, doa lot of the Scandinavians?

Even Dynasty only have a squad of 8 that they take to millennium events. i have seen the same faces at each event

Sam's right, I think Dynasty have a total squad of 9, and either Johnny Perchak or Angel Fragoza tends to stay home when they come to Europe...Tod Martinez could make 10 though...and who knows where Markus Nielsen will go now that he and Redz have parted company:eek:
