A judge needs to move about a bit in order to see a variety of angles.
I fully agree with this, the judges have to work as a team especially on the sup air fields. It is in possible for a judge on a tape to see both sides of a play that he is in front of. Therefore you need judges that can see the other side. Judges should not fixed to a spot they need to move so the players that are judging do not know where they are. This make cheating for play like wiping or playing-on a lot more of risk.
A judge can only call what he sees, so the have to stay alert and follow the game. A good judge should be able to read a mug and position them selves so they can see mugger as he is normally the player that is taking the biggest risk. I will have to say that it is almost impossible to for one judge to see both mugger and muggy and then ascertain who shot who first.
To be a good judge you have to give the players the benefit of the doubt, what I mean by this if you have any doubt that an infringement has taken place you should not penalise for it.
Remember players have paid money to play a paintball and enjoy them selves. A players day can be ruined by an over jealous judge.
One last thing a good judge need to communicate with the player he is checking, no judge should call a player neutral unless they are going to stop the player from carrying on as if not being checked. By leaving the player to play, judges do not have worry about other player moving on him, or stop a game from flowing. They tell player to play-on while checking, they should tell a player why they have been eliminated. This is common courtesy, a player will leave a field if the judge tells him where he was hit, or that’s he has been one for oned.
I think I have gone on long enough.
