am I the only one here that knows the magnificent seven was actually based on an old samurai flick . but still it was a kick ass movie .

No you are'nt. the film as said by Richard was the seven samuari. likewise a fist full of dollars is based on the film Yoyimbo(which is very cool too)

Ocean's Eleven was a pretty good film out recently.
Apocalypse now redux was sheer quality

I think I read somewhere that Vin Diesel did the Giant's voice.... – I think I did too. Pretty weird imagining the bloke from TF&TF in the Iron Giant!
My fav book at the mo. And in the last while has to be – Rainbow Six by Tom Clancy, absolutely brilliant!
