Hah.

I doubt any but the top Am teams break even by the time you factor in travel and practice and all that, and certainly don't pull in enough for it to constitute a job.

In the sense that being a "Pro" player is a full time job, paintball doesn't currently have any pro players.

Well, maybe Dynasty is, they may be leveraging their marketing enough to have it be their jobs.

Is the question what is a pro player by skill or if they should be considered pro? Although these guys don't only play and get paid they do work for their sponsors and fields in a lot of cases dont they? Basically I think a true pro is somebody who is purely paintball all the time. But what do I know?
I would like to hear what people think makes a player good enough to be pro, my personal opinion is the right time and right place, or mojo.

Pretty simple, dude. Pros are THE best, and although you might not get paid for actually being "pro", if you win an NPPL or Millennium as pro, the prize money, or whatever, is usually something staggering. Pros make money by being amazing. Pros are pros because they, themselves are at the top of their game, playing in a tight-knit team full of other destroyers. No idea what happens in NXL, but that's a story for tomorrow night at bed-time.

.....or something like that

Semi-pro!? Man, Pro refers only to the strength of a team, and the talent etc. Pro is not something defined by sponsors, its nothing to do with sponsors, pros just get all the sponsorship because they are PRO and are the BEST!

Teams aren't refered to as pro becuase of their sponsorship. Sponsors look for the best teams that will promote their products and since pros have a far wider sphere of influence than Novice etc. they clearly get more.

Surely you know what the term "Pro-Team" means and refers to..?

Technicaly, any sport you get paid for is Pro. As for paintball......we use it in a different sense to most other sports... a pro-footballer/golfer/baseball etc.... all make their living at it, and are at the top of their profession. We just use it to mean the top players/teams. How many other sports have top players with other jobs? yes, many are in the industry, but you don't see David Beckham flogging football boots on a Saturday morning.
Totally different scene in the US too Sephiroth. Nothing like ours :)
And most teams have some sort of sponsorship, for most it's no different to a bulk discount.

what is pro paintball?

hmmm... "professional" is misused in "professional paintball". People who are professional get paid to do their jobs (excluding the NXL).

Now on the other hand, the Pro/Am divisions do not get paid; they do it for their love of the sport.

Chris Lasoya is paid about 6 million a year in endorsements...that's a lot of dough
