What do you do?

Hard to say, really...

I don't know what I'd do. On the one hand, yeah, he's hit. But on the other, you're a spectator, not a ref. Yes, you may have seen it, and you may be right, but it ain't your job. I think I wouldn't worry about it if it's on a pack, or loader, or anywhere not in the "self-check zone". But if I saw a player blatantly playing on...then I might be inclined to tell the ref something. But again, same as Eric, I'm a marshall as well. You need to talk to reffs with respect, or you're not going to get **** accomplished. Screaming in through the netting is not the way to do it.

I saw that incident. I'm not going to name and shame, but suffice it to say that both player and marshall should be pretty ashamed. One plays for a team that, at least outwardly, prides itself above all else on its fair play, and the other usually wins respect, both for his playing and his marshalling.

There were three hits, all in the same 6-inch patch of forearm, each hit about 5 seconds apart. Given the player's shirt was tight across that part of his arm, there is NO way he could claim he didn't feel any of the three hits, in a area that could reasonably be expected to be in the self-check zone.

The marshall, from his location, could only see 2 players, but failed to react until several people outside the netting pointed it out.

I'm sure the player knows who he is, and all can say is I hope he feels proud of what he did. For the marshall's part, if he didn't see three consecutive hits on a player directly in front of him, in a location facing him, what the hell was he watching? I know spectators shouldn't be intefering with the game, but there are times you can't just stand there and watch someone get away with it (I ought to add that none of the spectators who did call the marshall's attention to the hit player had any interest in the outcome of the game either way.)

so you are saying that its ok for impartial spectators to speak to the marshalls in the game?some would say that that should not happen, so i think all impartial people should wear big green tshirts so the refs can trust them.:D
maybe more marshalls needed. someone said there are 7 per field, but it didnt seem that way when i was watching! or do some do other jobs, or what?

I'm not saying it's ok, I'm just musing I suppose. The ideal answer is that the marshalls should be sufficiently on the ball not to need coaching  The hits, and susequent playing on, were obvious enough that an attentive marshall should not have hesitated to pull a 1-4-1. As it was, the spectators pointed out an obvious, visible line of hits and the player was eliminated - no judgement required.

And, as far as I could see, there were 4 or maybe 5 marshalls on the field for that game. The marshalls at the other end were doing a sterling job; the two at the end in question just didn't seem to be with it at all.

I think that nothing should be said, I have seen a player unknowingly hit in the pack on the break, he ended being the last guy from his team on the field taking a few eliminations and being a key part of the game (a back player), now this was also a team I wanted to lose as we are in tight contention with them for a series prize in the MM, but I kept quiet, it is not for spectators to interfere, in all the other games on the field the call would of been missed, it may be wrong but its fair to all teams,
as for a player wiping there is nothing you can do, by the time the marshall gets there, (after you have distracted him by telling him where to go) the hit will be long gone, and the marshall cant pull a player because some guy from the sideline says he was hit.

this can also be used to cheat, calling the marshalls away so your players can wipe, getting checks on players on the opposite team to make them neutral/out of the game temporairily or give their position away.

True enough... *sigh*, where are all those professional refs we've all been talking about for ages? Only answer for it is marshalls that actually spot these things (i.e. ones that have a real incentive to do their job well), and enough of them to cover the field.
