In easier terms its like taking water from under a boat and leaving nothing but air. The boat drops due to it being heavier than air and the surrounding water is thrown on board.

It's all down to density and specific gravity........ alcohol is less dense than water, air is less dense than both, so the more air a liquid contains the lower any boat will sit in it due to reduced buoyancy, it's all down to upforce. A constant column of bubbles is mainly air so the boat basicaly falls through it. Same with alcohol. Salt water is more buoyant than fresh for the same reason.

I'm thinking of testing the "you can't swin in gin theory" at the weekend...... I'll try it with Tequila.
(I know you can't, but it'll be a laugh finding out).
