velocity limits for tournies
know i have noticed that over the years the velocity limit for tournies has slowly crept up till it is know at 300fps .we have checked the rise in bps of markers to 10.5 ,but nobody has thought of lowering the velocity back down to 260-280 fps as it used to be.know the reason i ask this is we are trying to encourage new blood into the sport and if you think about it most players first experiance of paintball is at a site where fps ranges from 250-280 fps and some even less than that.most walkons are in the 260-280 range aswell,so why are sup-air tournies generally in the 280-300 range when they are played on quite small fields to a woodland site.another reason i ask is because at the weekend myself and her indoors played a charity tournie,at whicch the mrs was shot with a marker chrono,d at 298fps the bruising it left her was black and blue all down oneside ,now the mrs gets shot regular as she marshalls at a site where the chrono limit is 280 and she has never had bruising like this before, could these velocity limits be a factor in people not getting into sup-air aswell ,especially the younguns when mum and dad see the state they come home in please give your thoughts

Not many people get chucked straight into supair 99% of us started in the woods where it was chronoed at 260ish and as we have become more competitive etc things like velocity can be raised as players are used to being shot and have been shot enough to not really mind it.

Supair players generally don't give a crap about the pain of getting hit or being bruised. If they do then they are in the wrong sport, lazer quest is thata way >>>

(Also most players do have their guns set to about 280 anyway incase the gun spikes on the chrono)

I've always played at the 300 fps max can remember it being lower universaly, but close combat sites (indoor etc) do run at a lower fps,I've played at sites with lower fps aswell tbh it made no difference to the bruising..It's rarely extremely painfull and would 20 fps really make that much difference.
You'd have to get every p'ball sporting body to agree there's enough debate over the rof,as Asylum dave says most players set their markers around 280 anyway.
People bruise differently so you cant use that as an indication,I've seen 280 fps chronoed guns break pots.
Most people entering the sport would have had ball experience so know what to expect..p.s hope the mrs is ok..:D

when i first started playin we trained at 280fps and i was only new then, and maybe after a month or two it went up to 300fps so at trainin we also went upto 300fps. for me gettin shot at 300fps back then hurt like a b!tch and tbh it did put me off abit. not puttin me off paintball completley but puttin me off from movin around the field. but as time went by i got shot and shot and now when i get hit im surprised at how little it hurts even after gettin mugged:)

and yes the bruises that i used to come home with made my parents think abit differently about paintball. but as time went by i got better so i got shot less:D but when i do get hit they dont turn into bruises anymore. only the odd one or two if it was a close range shot

at sup air tourneys, im usually so excited/nervous and such that I don't even feel the pain , i was mugged in my first tourny and didnt feel a thing maybe it was low fps or a paint issue , but i was full of adrenaline that means i dont feel much pain at all in tournys , plus comptetativness means no-one cares about the pain rather on the fact they are out tof the game.

tiffer mrs is ok and don,t give a sh*t but next time the players aving it:D:Das a few people have said to me this could also be a factor of low quality paint and in the financial climate we are in,could this not become more common as players choose to shot cheap paint:eek:just a thought should a set qualiy of paint be set aswell:)

I didn't understand what the 2 :D signified in the above post:confused:
Paint quality will always be an issue, buy the crappy rubbery stuff and it won't break anyway, but it can sure leave a welt.
Prices are such that for an extra few quid you can get good tournament grade paint which tends to break rather than bounce.
