2--this argument sounds to me rather like the whole shorter game times make better games argument in which, your ideal, would be one All-England Championship. A single annual event to crown the king or kings of British paintball. One event would force everyone who wants to compete to play and with so much at stake how could the incentive get any higher?
But seriously, I still think you've got it backwards. You can't give heart to those what ain't got it by raising the stakes of success or failure.
3--I hope I didn't say that 'cus I don't believe it for a minute. What too many Brit teams want is the appearance of competition even if the level is uniformly mediocre.

I understand the points you are making (I think), and even I should eat more Chicken as surplus beef in my formative years may be explaining a lot now. Point 3 I actually agree with, and maybe I've confuzzled it too much.

I maybe have a tendency to think financially (although in this instance we needs more money than we got), but I kinda put a bit of faith in human nature (both good and bad). I'd have hoped that by increasing the level of competition away from the mediocre, and the desire not to look bad when getting bashed, would maybe place a greater emphasis on training and competing. Yep we can't make all people train or give em heart, but maybe a little more aspiration would'nt hurt.

I'm not suggesting an all England Cup, but lets make teams more hungry for success, you never know who or what will get flushed out in the process. This is what will hopefully in time go forward and help build commited players who do want to develop the skill base to become the best. Even if a lot of players are only in it for the crack.

Maybe it is arris about face, but I thought competition might breed success, I mean your not all supermen in the states, are you???

in germany we have lots of small tourneys, which are mostly "fun cups". most times you get a trophy if you win. sometimes every team gets a trophy. there are few who give prices away like one for example where the first place team gets back its entry fee and free entry for the next year. i also played tournaments where you could win free entry for another event for example. sometimes shops sponsor events and you could win a set of three battle-packs (in a 3 man tournament) or something like that. but cash prices are rare and absolutely unusual on small local tourneys.then there are slightly bigger tournaments where the winner gets a few cases of paint or something, but no cash either. last year, team-supports where set as prizes of some of the german tournament series (yes, we have quite a few, which is bitter cause there are not enough teams to fill them all).

i think its okay the way prizes are handled over here. and its like it was said before: if you want to win big, play big. and if you play big, you will surely find some sponsoring too;) .

Most local tournaments in the states you're lucky to make enough money selling prizes to cover the entry, you're still taking a loss on paint and any travel.
