I'm sure Manike must know something about this subject?

speedy you can stay in the states for 90 days on the visa waiver program aslong as you hold a GB passport.O and on the subject of marrying a US person, believe me it takes a shed load of evidence and time before you get that visa:D

What about coming here to go to college? If you are 17, you have time to apply for scholarships and admissions and such.

I realize that this means paying for something that is ordinarily free, but if you got sufficient scholarships, you are in. I would think student visas are easier to come by.

If you are coming to America, and you don't know what to study, then major in business. 1- if you change your mind, or discover some previously unknown passion, you aren't taking classes that are very distant from your new field. 2- if you don't, you will one day know how to make money 3- you would have to be intentionally trying to do badly not to understand and master course material. No offense to business majors anywhere, but the most challenging part seems to be network building, not Accounting 401.
