Okay then on a serious note. Me and the wife the past 6 months have looked at going to Canada, South Africa, or basically abroad to work for a bit :)

All of them have a long winded process to get a visa. Most you require to have a job to go to already. You can't just go and then try and find work.

Many countries operate on a points system. Things like qualifications, your area of work etc all give you points. The more points you have the more chance of working abroad :)

You really need to take something to the country they have a shortage of, or they feel would benefit there country.

My job (IT consultant) would not give me access to a country like Canada. However my wife being a fully qualified nurse can get a working visa for just about anywhere!! So I can get a visa off the back of hers.

A lot of countries also wish for you to have a certain ammount of cash. Basically they want to make sure your not going to be a burden to them :)

Theres loads of websites about it on the net. However the info is often specific to certain job roles etc so makes it a little difficult...

Come now JohnC,

Lincoln must be North, People are so keen to get out of there they have the speed camera's facing you, otherwise they're never photograph you in time (and that in my mind is cheating).

Anyway

Mr G4LS,

have you tried getting yourself onto the books of an au-pair agency. They seem to have no trouble getting people at least temporary Visa's.

how old are you ? ... most countries will have a 'travellers' type visa upto a certain age .. i dont think your supposed to 'work' on them but starbucks will take anyone ..

other than that most places operate a points system. eg

age = # points, the older the less you get
money = #, they dont want spongers
skills = #, fire eating, being able to make a cappacino which is all froth, nurse, plumber, 6th sense for finding womd etc. a skill they need at that time will score high, like nurses, but not IT people :(
etc .. you need to have x amount of points and then you can start the application process.

if you can get a job offer then your normally sorted. another way which is good for oz and nz is a franchise visa, where you agree to buy a franchise in something .. back to starbucks again !!

good luck its not quite as easy as it seems ..

Quite possibly, but we're based in Essex, and I'm not sure how that helps with your desire to get into the US.

Next time I sit down with Alan Greenspan, I'll put in a good word for you though. ;)
