I did it for fun in the beginning, but that was Woodsball and scenario, tourny ball is different to me, it's about getting your team up to fight in the top positions and to win. You don't get to keep winning unless your train hard and more than once a week.
One of the troubles I find is that getting the whole team to train regularly is difficult, if you have the ability to do so on your own then you should. Further yourself and the team will benefit :)

Fairy nuff, but thats up to them, they won't always come 4th and if they have the money and/or have put in the effort they will improve. But taking away the fun takes away the point of the game.

ofcourse if you dont enjoy it there is no point on playing anymore and if the fun is taken out of it but when you spend all that money and dont need to it just becomes rediculas

I think this has digressed from the post title, at this rate well have an argument about a fictional set of KOTH players going nowhere but with too much money :)

When you were a kid didnt you "play" for fun? (dont take that the wrong way ;))

I certainly play for fun, but during tourny's i certainly wouldnt mind winning. At the same time im having a fantastic time. I cant understand people playing paintball purely to win, and not having fun.

I agree paintballing is expensive, but i dont agree with it being called a "rich-boys-hobby". Im certainly not rich but manage to find the cash to put towards paintball. Just shop around :D

Winning is fun!!!

Then what would you call it?

It's not a sport (not a recognised one in the UK anyway). It's far more expensive than football, cricket, athletics, swimming etc.

Let's compare it to other 'extreme sports'. BMX, skateboarding, snowboarding etc. All of these can be done very cheaply and usually at a location very close to home.

Now let's talk sup'air. £500~ to get kitted out, £25 a box of 'training' paint, £15 green fees, transport.

Once you have your £500's of gear - what can you do with it? Nothing unless you pay at least another £40 everytime you want to play/train.

So, do 'kids' go for the £200 skateboard/bmx/whatever and practically play for free (most parks now have free skateboard/bmx ramps) - or do they go for the £500 start-up then an extra £40 everytime you want to 'play'?

If I was a skateboarder - I could 'train' every night for free - can you do that with paintball?

So I believe it is nothing more than an expensive hobby - and judging by the way some of the so-called paintball hierarchy (sp) conduct themselves - that's all it will ever stay!
