What would the 'Major financial entity' get out of it?

I think the problem with paintball here is knowledge. Or Lack or it. Look at the millenium score boards. All the teams (bar a couple of M5) that have placed well come from D7's south. Its not a coincidence. The other places I play in the UK I meet players who think they are the ****, coz they own this white headband, or this baggy ass set of limited edition '09 playing pants, and they have 30 bazillion post count next to their name on here.

Its not there fault. Think about the first time you played paintball. I bet you met someone who at first you thought knew it all. How did you know whether what they told you was right? I see people play paintball every weekend, and not get any better. Because they don't have anyone showing them what to do. And sometimes they are too arrogant to ask for advice, or willing to listen to anyone giving it. Paintball is not an easy sport, there is alot to it. And our knowledge base is very limited.

Next time you get blown up, swallow your pride and go ask the person that shot you, why they shot you, doesn't matter who they are. Ask what you could of done differently, what gave you away. See through all the agg bullsh*t.

That's got to be one of the most accurate posts I've read on here in a while...

I have to agree

And also with Coldys point. I have found that the most productive practice was when I ventured down to ECI training at D7's south the amount of tips I got was astounding even on small things.

Also the same with Phoenix 2 years back when teams used to send a couple of players to go train a team etc ...

We are all trying to be too rock star and not actually trying to play paintball.

There isn’t anyone that would disagree with you statement. Well written.
But we seem to be moving away from the point, yet again and discussing the area’s that seem to be discussed time and time again. Everyone knows about the arrogant kids that are at the bottom of the ranks, we have all seen them and many of us were them at some point. But the attitude they have is only a product of the people they look up to and respect, which is the people that pick them up.

Trying to venture back to the discussion, the question, or the area of UK paintball, what I am attempting to bring into light.

My concern is with what we offer large financial entities and the argument isn’t with the arrogant kids. Because if you look at the modal professionals within the sport, the ECI, shock, nexus, notorious, stealers not one of them players would ever say to you “I know it all” or “I am good enough”. These Teams and their players strive and struggle everyday to be better. I know players first hand who train 5 days a week specifically for paintball, in fact i have written fitness plans for some of them personally. In answer to your question What would the 'Major financial entity' get out of it? They would get to support modal professionals in their chosen sport and have there representation. But to highlight the question again Where would the marketing opportunities be for those companies, within the UK?

Find the answer to a different question and you will find the answer to the highlighted question...

And the question is:

How many people would watch tournament paintball in the UK?

I think your focusing on the wrong thing. Stop tryting to make people watch/become interestred in paintball. Make paintball more interesting/watchable. How? I don't know. There are plenty of people on here with a much better idea than me.

All most of us can do is improve the sport at a grass roots level.

And there is plenty of good paintball to be played in the UK, you just gotta know where to look...

That's not what I wanted to achieve. The reason why I posted that question was to make you think about the kind of crowds that you can get at typical paintball events which take place around the world.

Who attends paintball events? Paintballers. Who else? pretty much nobody, unless the event itself is hosted at a venue that guarantees that people will stumble upon it.

You have the Huntington Beach event that does that, you have the Malaga Beach... Campaign Cup last year seemed a good venue at first but the long entrance to get to the actual event seemed to kill the thing for some people from what I've seen while being there for 3 days.

The Blackpool event that Jonathan A is talking about could achieve a good result...

So what are the marketing opportunities for out-of-industry sponsors at a typical event? Very small... Yeah, maybe a couple hostesses giving out energy drink cans... that's it.

Also...

I've been a member of this forum for quite some time... and from time to time I see this kind of thread jump up where people moan about the state of UK paintball and how things are not the way they used to be...

Oh for ****'s sake... Cry me a river...

What I am about to say might make me the public enemy number 1 on here, but here's the hard truth.

You've got a couple teams that can really compete with the best in Europe: Shock, Nexus, Disruption, HPG (in no particular order)... Those teams train somewhere... They attend the same UK events as the rest of you...

You have access to clinics by the best players in the world (Lang, Fraige, Robbo,...)...

You have retail paint prices that make me scream bloody murder when I see people complain about the cost of playing...

And yet you (as in UK paintballers in general) complain about not having the opportunities to learn from the best, that the pro teams don't bend over at your every whim...

You had a couple REBALL sites open up and close (as far back as in 2006 if I recall correctly) because people couldn't be arsed to use them...

Now to compare with where I live (mind you I am no longer an active tournament player, but I keep in touch with what's going on:

We have 2 leagues that are organised at various venues around the country by a council of organisers: 3-man hopperball and 5-man with central flag. One takes place on saturday, the other on sunday - same venue.

Teams travel to some of these events over 300-400 kilometers one way...Gas costs ~1 pound per liter with the average national wage per capita being 650-700 pounds

Decent paint for tournaments costs 35+ quid per box.

The only reball place opens up in january and closes up in march and is packed full throughout the whole time. Monday-Sunday. Some teams organise their own reball facilities.

More and more teams implement a training regime that has them practice at least twice a week. It's not scrimming only though. There are practices where a player won't shoot a bag of paint even. Some don't even require markers to be used.

Think about what I just wrote and answer to yourselves...Are you doing everything you can to make yourself a better paintball player or are you just sitting and waiting for a knight in shining armor or a fairy that will give you a magical ring?
