Im not too sure if domestic tourneys are a good indicator of the strength of UK 'ball.

I'd be more concerned about the number of teams entering millennium events, or even the few who can make it over stateside as this is where the true competition is.

afraid i would have to agree with mrdan, take a look at the rankings of uk teams in the millenium and see relatively successful domestic teams struggle to make an impact on the podiums in the MS, i don't think it is realistic to assess the state of uk ball by looking at the nppl as this season it looks like nexus will be flying the flag alone. in my honest opinion it is very hard to assess how many genuinely good teams we have in the country as our tourni scene is so disjointed.

but when did any of them last play a domestic tourni,
and be4 you say shock were at euro5man i know, but i was referring to teams that play in a domestic league regularly, do well, step up to the ms and struggle, the 3 teams you mention are obviously exceptions to that

Shock and Nexus payed in Pro Tour. I know what you mean JJ but last season it was hard to find time.

Shock last season played 5 NPPL, 5 Millenniums, 4 Pro Tour events, and the Euro 5 man.

15 Major events in one season, add in training and you get a budget streched so far noting else can be included in. We would have liked to play a series, and this season we hope to be able to.

We will hopefully enter into a leg of a couple of the series' around the country.

To be fair - Kelly's do put a lot in to the UK 'scene'. They are often represented one way or another in any domestic league/tourney (I've even spotted the odd one playing some woodsball - but we'll not mention that here ;)).

I think the core of the problem is too many teams - not enough players. I am talking about dedicated players - players who want to train, get fit, learn the 'skills' etc. - not rec-ballers with a machine gun (like me :p).

Everyone keeps saying the 'kids' are the way forward - this is all too true. But how many of these kids can afford to play and train often? Most of them are either at college/school or in crappily paid jobs.

Tourney ball is a VERY expensive hobby - one that most teenagers simply can't afford. Most of the people that can afford it are too insular and protective of their own 'game' (this is probably due to the politics Mario was talking about).

The only way to make p'ball progress in the UK is to make it accessable to everyone who wants it - that means cheaper prices, practice fields local (less than 10 miles away), proper safety/supervision etc. etc. To achieve all this takes money. And this money has either got to come from the existing paintballers themselves (unlikely, unless you are related to the 'kid' somehow), parents (unlikely again - same reason as above) or external sponsorship (outside of the paintball industry).

Until then, I can only see UK ball being exactly the same in 10 years time as it is now - and was 10 years ago!

I know there are some trying to change the UK scene with an x-ball variant - but until you have practice fields and cheap kit - only the 'rich' will ever play it.

wasnt knocking you , kellys or nexus as you are the exception to the rule as regards uk teams that can step up to the bar in the ms but purely pointing out that alot of uk teams dont reach your standards, at all levels not just pro, div 1
