I agre with alot of what you said but no13 was scraping the barrel a bit!!

You gave the reason the pro player was allowed to hang the flag and it seems perfectly reasonable to me (though why not wipe it off?)

as for your tiny spec on your loader - I suspect that the marshal saw a ball hit and leave that tiny amount - and that it all that is required - if the ball is seen to hit and leave ANY amount of paint then you are eliminated.

Of course only you and the marshal can be sure!!!

But going back to the rest - all these great ideas and not much in the way of application - seems like lip service despite the massive efforts made by many involved in the organisation of the series.

I think they are learning!!!

and there did not understand the rules because there were in english.
Apart from the dodgy spelling:D , surely this is one of the most important points?!

If the refs can't read english (and it is very arrofant to assume everyone can) they have no chance of implementing the rules...

Maybe a translation of the rules into German, Portugese, etc would be a good idea?

Do marshals get an Info Pack on the rules implemented at the tournament that they are reffing at? If not maybe it is time that they did along with a check list for safety issues?

Alternatively it would be a better idea to ensure that the people that do the reffing at a big international tourney speak some kind of language that is widely spoken (I always knew my degree in Pygmee would come in handy...).
Yes it's arrogant to assume that everybody will just speak English, but it's even more arrogant to host an international tourney and have staff that can't deal with other lingos.

By the way, this does not mean that all refs should be billingual or whatever, but I'd say that they must at least have the ability to express themselves in English, and it's the organiser's job to ensure that the refs understand the rulebook. If that means issuing them with translations, or just going over them page by page discussing each rule in detail is up to them...

Somehow that small part from the Toulouse 2001 video springs to mind where one of the refs is talking to (I think) one of the GZ guys with a hilarious French accent...

Rules ??

Hi Guys,

While I do agree that all paintball markers should have triggerguards for safety reasons (and it should be in the rules) - I can't see anything in the current rulebook version 2b - April 2002, that requires you to have a triggerguard to play in the Millennium series (short of a special rule which should have been annonunced at the captains meeting).

Under what rule was this "supposed" to be ??

See ya
Morten

P.S. Mannike be sure to look me up during Mayhem I'll be at the RG booth

The guys with the missing trigger gaurds are just as responcible for knowing the rules as the refs and should have know about the trigger rule and they should have been banned from using those guns right away. Rules are rules. It would have been their own fault.

But Mortenlj is right - the trigger guard rule doesn't seem to be in the latest (April 2002) set of rules on the Millennium web site. I thought this was in the rules until I read his post & went back & checked them.

Mark,

Here is some clarifications and thoughts about the points you have stressed out:

1- I asked this subject to this forum before I went to Portugal, re asked it on captains meeting but no one ave me a consistant answer, some said it was ok some said it was not but no one is caring etc.

I think marshalls should care and should not let these guns. I myself played with one w/o trigger guard but it is not possible to find any spare parts for Angel in Turkey and was too late. I made a mistake.

2 and 3- I do not see any point about this hopper thing, maybe they are trying to minimize the possibility of cheating but look at it this way;

They say that only black white and red is allowed because there are no paints colors matching these... Would it not also mean that we should not be able to wear anything green, blue and orange??? What is the difference???

This is not about safety so marshalls are allowed to be a little more relaxed.

4- I totally agree, on JT field where the marshalling was strict and excellent by all means, there were clothes check, but on angel field there were none. Especially after the delays kept going on, marshalls left out these kind of checks...

5- I did not see that kind of thing, I chronoed my gun before during and after the game by marshalls and myself everytime so did my teammates. They were pretty strict about this. also it should be your responsibility to check your gun before the breakout, since you may cost your team one player, which means a missed semis or finals...

6- This thing was clearly mentioned during captains meeting, so there are no gray things, you CAN shoot inside the line as long as you step out from the fence.

7- no idea, and why the hell did not marshalls re started the game?? they do not necessarily penalty the team, just restart it. we had a game like this, we had to restart twice because WDP site was playing music so loud no one could here a f**k!!:D

8- this is called %100 cheating!!! damn the guy.

9- was the marshall blind?? and why didn't you get out automatically if you have seen you have been hit??

10- nobody checked mine too and the guys were the same as in toulouse. this is the most dangeroous thing, you could get killed.

11- since we did not attend any millennium series since toulouse 2001, we had no player ids but paid for it. This is probably why you haven't been checked. If you were, what were we going to do?? They did not give them until Monday afternoon...

12- it is not abou the chrono, it is about the high temp and humidity.

13- if he was given ok at the start and returns with flag with the same spot then what is the problem?? Were you given ok before the game, if so, it was unfair to you.

That's it..

All Millennium marshals MUST be able to speak English - this is a pre-requisite of them being allowed to ref.

The rules should be produced in each language though for the team that play!!!

Hey Morten,

I suppose there is a chance that this will be in the rules by toulouse then? :(

Not a problem for me, but at least two of my team-mates have cockers with double triggers, which have had the orginial guard removed, and a double shoe fited.

If this trigger guard requirement does become law (as I suspect it might) what will be the definition of a trigger guard?

I only ask as the two cockers on my team both have regs and braided hoses to the bottom lines, which are no further away from the trigger than some of the "cutlass" style guards I've seen on some markers.
